LM-1 Wideband O2 Sensor Placement

All, I have the opportunity to use the LM-1 for my 83 SC, but I am uncenrtain as to the best placement of the Wideband O2 sensor. I have searched the forum and found that folks are placing the sensor in many different locations... Some are removing the factory narrowband sensor and placing the wideband sensor in its place - I like this idea. Some are placing before or after the catalytic convertor. However, the location of my 02 narrowband 02 sensor is at the 12:00 o'clock position and the LM-1 manual says do NOT place the wideband sensor on the top, bottom, or side (3 or 9:00 o'clock). The manual says the best location is between the 10:00 and 2:00 o'clock position. The manual isn't that clear as to placing before or after the convertor either; at least not to me.

Since my use of the LM-1 is only temporary, I do not want to have a bung welded to my exhaust. So, would placing the wideband 02 sensor in the 12:00 o'clock position ok? I also have what looks to be a bung and plug already at the 3:00 o'clock position on the convertor. I don't know what this isfor, but it is definelty factory standard; would this be a good place for the wideband sensor?

Also does the LM-1's wideband sensor go before, upstream, or after, downstream, of the catalytic convertor?

Gentlemen, thank you for your responses. I will put it in place, temorarily, of the narrowband sensor at the 12:00 o'clock position. Note that I will only be using this for setting the AFR, not a pemanent additon to influence my Lambda control.

DW SD: I can barely see your car in the picture, but it still looks great.

why not add a bung and plug it after? I did this, very happy with the accessory port - when I dyno tuned, they threaded an exhaust sensor into the same port. Good for lighting a cigarette, if you smoke. Just kidding.

Put it pre-cat or your readings would be skewed.

I tried this on my 80' used the analog output to the enrichment controller, it did not work for me, hope it works for you. It pegged my FV at 100% duty cycle, not good for AFR's. I suppose if your using it to supplement the original O2 sensor then it could be used.
