Change 78 SC 3.0 for a 3.0 turbo

Hi there Folks,

My car is a 74 911, whats involved in doing an engine swap form my 78 3.0 SC motor for a 3.0 turbo motor.

I have a 5 speed 915 (74 rebuilt with wevo brearing retainer) with the turbo bolt onto this ok? or do I have to have a 4 speed turbo box.

I run just CIS and a msd ignition, ssi and 2in 2out exhaust, aprat from a new exhaust what other factors apart from brakes do I have to consider?

Could the turbo 3.0 induction just bolt onto my engine or is the compression too high? I have the 180 hp 78 SC motor 8.5:1

We just bolted a 88 Trubo to a 915 last summer, the most I had to do was to "modify" the sheet metal area in fron where the Air pump was.

This issue i have got is my 915 has a mag alloy bell housing, and a 74 four speed ring and pinion
I think stock 3.0 turbo would be as much as I'd want to strap onto it.

I have done what you want to do. In the long run it is smarter to sell your car and buy a 930 and mod that if you want.

like additional cost like needing a new clutch or required modifications to fit the engine.

Or is just a simple bolt on?

Ah.

Yes you will need a beefier clutch. KEP has a nice PP. I also added a rear fuel pump and relay. I also had to change the wiring at the 14 pin connector.

It is a very easy swap. I put a '78 930 engine in my '78SC. Sachs sport clutch, 930 oil tank, a little wiring on the harness and fuel pumps, a couple oil lines. That's about it.
Mod creep will kill you on transplant cars. More power, bigger brakes, bigger suspension, grenaded 915, etc. That is why it is best to just start with a 930.
