Porsche Crest 911 transmission problems please help

Hello I'm a new member and don't know about 911s. I just bought a 911s from a good friend. We brought it to a Porsche mechanic that rebuild the transmission and 2 days later the same problem.

I have searched for similar threads and couldn't find anything.

The vehicle was at the same mechanics putting in a used well working engine. after leaving with the car i couldn't get it or keep it into 2nd gear it kept popping out of gear and while in 3rd it made a noise in the rear. brought it into the same mechanic and he tells me that i new a transmission rebuild.

Picked up the car and 2 days later same problem. While driving the 2nd gear pops out and while in 3rd theres a scapping noise coming from the rear near the engine.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHATS WRONG.

Thank you

Are you saying that during the two days he rebuilt the transmission? Also can you describe how the shifter feels? Are the gears always in the same place, regardless of the problems?

Sorry for the scrambled message.

Yes this happens all the time it won't go into 2nd it feels like it going in but pops out.

Before the rebuild and now after the rebuild same problem continues. yes gears are always in the same position.

a few hours after posting this the mechanic finally called and says the main shaft needs to be machined and to a new shimmy added. during the rebuild he never did those 2 things.

Does this sound correct? Is this the reason why the 2nd gear won't stay in and while in 3rd gear theres a scapping noise in the rear, sounds like gears or something?

Could be as simple as an adjustement to the linkage located in the tunnel behind the front seats

Get the shift linkage adjusted, per the Bentley manual. That could be all that was ever wrong.

What year is the car? Milage?

Talking Lol Lol

TELL ME ABOUT IT.

When i have time i'll have to tell you guys everything from beginning to end. Your gonna luv this story.

Thanks for the suppor1975 911s this is a second engine and i'm sure he lied but this engine is 150k my friend can't believe how well it sounds. the engine is driving great. this 2nd engine is from a 77.

I've tried adjusting the linkage before this tranny rebuild. as i'm writing to you i'll go try again. i hope that it works now after the rebuild.

i'll also go search for articles to confirm i'm doing it correct. can anyone suggest an article number?

thanks

My 84 targa has 210k on it without any problems =). All I need to fix mechanically are the shifter bushings.

Better description

After playing around with the linkage yeasterday, i have a better idea and description of whats happening.

all my gears are going into gear accept 2nd. while in 1st then shifting into 2nd gear it will go in but doesn't feel like the rest of the gear when you put it into gear. but it does go in but doesn't stay in gear as soon as i accelarate it pops out of gear. while the cars rolling i'll try to but it into 2nd and the gears will grind.
