surging at idle

There was a recent thread similar to my problem in that on a cold start my '83 SC has an appropriately high idle that gradually comes down as the car warms up. However, it never settles down to 900 rpm. Instead, it surges up to 1000 to 1200 or so in a regular way but not at a constant rate. It only ocassionally settles at 900 for a short time. Incidently, I opened the oil cap and the idle slowed. I also cleaned out the air sensor plate area. Any other ideas? By the way, thanks to all for previous help given on other topics! -CKrause

Since the RPMs drop with the oil filer cap off, it sounds as if your vacuum system is OK. This is a problem that seems to haunt many CIS owners. Is this a recent problem? What was done prior to the hunting? Anything?

Yeah, what Robert said above.
Then have the mixture reset with an EGA.

Fixed mine. If you have questions about doing this, search the archives. There are tons of threads about why this is ok on the CIS K-lambda system.

Nick.
