1986 Carrera cab top question:

Have a 86 Carrera Convertible that currently has a factory original "two piece" top. I read an ad on ebay where a seller was offering 993 "one piece" top that claims will fit and work on the 911 models. Is this true and/or anyone have experience with using the 993 tops on 911 Carreras? Txs.

I have seen some of the earlier cabs that had the later style 1 piece top installed. As far as I know they will work, but the entire cab frame assembly has to be changed out also, not just the fabric. Is the top that you are asking about the entire cab assembly, or is it just the fabric?

That's a good point. Many people that might say they are interchangeable could mean the entire unit rather than just the top itself.

I was talking about using a fabric 993 top cover on the existing 1986 mechanism.

There is a "one piece" 993 customized top for 911 and 964 cabs available.
And you don't need to change the frame or the mechanism, just replacing the tops. The only issue is that the vendor is located in Germany
