Auxiliary Air Valve???
A couple of questions regarding the AAV:
Evidently, this is a supplemental air device to provide air on warm or hot start, such as when the AAR is closed. Will the car start without this device? Does anyone have this device disabled? Where was it plumbed to originally? Somewhere on the airbox bonnet? I don't remember! As it is, I have no provisions on my bonnets for this, although I could plumb it to the airbox itself. I have a turbo in my SC, and just changed to a stainless steel airbox. I had my AAV plumbed to the stock location on the outlet side of the AAR, but the inlet side of the AAR was plumbed to the top of the throttle body (above the throttle plate). I am defining the AAR and AAV as devices in parallel, airflow-wise. If I ditch the AAV, will this severely hinder my warm start ability? TIA Pat

After further thinking, I need to check the operation of the AAV to see if it shuts at 5" vacuum. I am also wondering about the boost effect on it, as I have it plumbed currently, so I should pressurize it also to see what that does.

Your plumbing is a little different than mine but I have eleminated all of the auxilliary air devices from my engine and it works just fine. Plug it off and give it a whirl. If it doesn't work for you put it back. Ain't CIS great?

Aux Air Valve
I disabled mine when I was trying to trace a hot start issue; my 930 would not start after driving normal, waiting 30 mins and then trying to start - which it would never do; I would have to remove the top of the air cleaner box, leave the ign on, press down on the CSI plate to 'prime' the engine. ( yes, I already had the screw turned twoards right for rich ).
My Solution: run a wire from the cold start valve to a push button in the cab and poof, It starts every time like magic. Ok, so it's a rig but it works great and only cost me 5 $ bucks plus a little brainwork. The only thing that I have not done, which I must do is making certain the case can breathe properly.... munchovie. |

Brian, the only problem with trying to run it and then changing my mind is that I have to pull the engine every time I do that. Anything behind the airbox is just plain inaccessible with the engine in. I am getting pretty good at R&R, but I need to buy a lift if this keeps up!
Here's before plumbing, and after. I think I'll ditch the AAV, keep the AAR, and give that a try. I hope I don't blow this airbox up. Plus, I still have to fab a bracket for the AAV, since it won't mount to the old location. ![]()

On the 930 the AA devices allow metered air to flow around the throttle plate. I assume that is also the function in your application. How does this help during a warm start?
My right foot has replaced the AA devices on my engine and should also do so for your configuration. Unless I am missing something you should only need a raised idle when the engine is cold.
