engine questions

On an impulse I bought a 3.2 motor recently. The engine number is 63E06074 witch I believe means its a 84 Euro motor.

I have no real history except what the seller told me. It was suppose to have been out of a 70k mile car that was wreaked. The original buyer was able to hear it run before it was pulled. It was going to go into a 914.

Does this look like the factory sealant. It looks a little sloppy and I was wondering if the motor has been opened up in the past.

Thanks.

Is that all the way down the case seam as well? It looks like RTV, and I didn't find any RTV on my engine during the teardown. You often times use locktite 574 on the case halves, however it drys to an darker orange color.

I have my engine down to the case right now and there is no sealant spooged out like that.

That is not factory.

I'm honestly surprised that the case didn't leak. I would tear it down just based on what I see there, you don't know how many other mistakes were made.

I didn't think so. No leaks are visable and it doesn't look like it's been done recently.

I was just curious. Any suggestions on what I can do to check it out while its out.
