the factory used a whale tail (tea tray) for a very good reason - to keep the rear planted during high speed maneuvers.
while it may be lighter, the duck only gets a normal 911 to neutral lift at the rear, while the tea tray generates around 135 lbs (IIRC) of down-force at 100mph. the numbers may be off, but you get the idea. my 2 911s are just about even in a qtr mile but the turbo is 3-4 secs faster a lap at Watkins Glen. I'd like to think the 930 advantage comes from the aero advantage using the whale tail. (73 is ducked) I agree the duck looks bad a$$, but do it because it looks bad a$$, not because you think you are gaining any performance advantage, realizing that you will be comprising high speed stability. Another Perspective
Hope this helps with ideas...;)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196260473.jpg PS....Bill K is absolutely correct. The car is less stable at high speeds. I have not driven competitively since the mid 90's. So, I did it for the look. Anyone tracking a car would benefit from more down force. Paul |
That duck tail looks horrible!!!!!
You should remove it and give it to me for proper disposal...I'm close by, I'll even pick it up. Better yet, I'll trade you a non-tailed bonnet. (OK, this line has been over used). LIKE THE DUCK. |
Skip the duck tail it looks way to small on a widebody car. Plus the reduction of lift/extra cooling caused by the turbo tail is nice.
|
The car looks confused as to what it wants to be. The wheels fight the duck.

Duck. I did the exact same thing. Sold the turbo, paid for the duck.
|
Quack.
|
No question the Duck looks great on a widebody!!!
|
Keep the duck, lose the wheels.
Hey check out my avatar - it's just like yours but mine spins! |
really like the duck, REALLY not so excited about the wheels. newer is NOT better when it comes to 911's and frankly a nice amount of sidewall just looks sexy on a wide body 911. getcha some nicely finished fuchs and you will have a very sharp car indeed!
|
an example to show why fuchs belong on 911's, especially widebody cars!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196308991.jpg
