Dear friends,
I am currently considering all my options since I am facing a complete engine rebuild of my 2.7 engine (pulled studs, oil leakage, the usual stuff!). I have already decided not to up-grade to 3.0/3.2 since I want to keep the car ('75 Silver Anniversary Edition) reasonable original! But, last night I was reading in Bruce's bible that a nice tunning possibility of the 2.7 is to bring it up to 2.7RS specifications. Increasing hp and torque while at the same time, keeping the CIS. Well this sounds quite interesting. However Bruce is not quite generous with information on what it is that is needed to come to a complete conversion. He is mentioning the S-camshafts and the fact that injection parts should be changed as well, without mentioning which parts. Can any of you help me with some more details? Thanks a lot for the help ------------------ Joris 75 911S http://members.xoom.com/joogie/Joogie.htm |

First prep the case(start with a 7R casting) with timecerts and all new headstuds(either Raceware or the newer coated Porsche units), clean up the internal castings(boattail), bore the spigots out to 97 mm for the new 90 mm cylinders. Buy a new set of RS Nikasil 90 mm cylinders with matching forged pistons(Nikasil is recognizable by having 11 fins instead of the Biral cylinders 15 fins in this size) do not confuse these pistons with normal or S 90mm pistons as used on US 2.7's, the crown shape is quite different as are the valve pockets. CR with these pistons should be around ~8.5:1. You need to either modify your existing heads or buy a set of 72-73 S heads which have the correct valve and port size for the RS(36/35 mm). You will need a set of S cams and now for the hard part a complete S Bosch mechanical FI setup (you will need to trash your your existing CIS setup), the MFI will need to be sent out to be rehabed and the space cam will need to be changed to the correct one for the RS. Next you need either SSI or oem headers with the correct heat fitting for the MFI preheater. You will also need to make sure that the S cam has the correct gear drive on the end to drive the MFI pump. Lastly the distributor should be rebushed and recurved with appropriate quality wires, connectors and plugs.
Don't forget to do the body, RS/Carrera rear flares and ducktail. It will be a nice project, but personally I think you get more bang for your buck from 3.2 transplant. [This message has been edited by Bill Verburg (edited 03-05-2001).] |
