CIS to Webbers
I just bought a 2.2 liter that's been sitting for a long time. It has 40 IDA's on it (that will need to be rebuilt). Anyway, I'm wondering if I can put them on my CIS 2.7, which has supposedly been bored to a 2.9.
Arey they too small? Do I need to change anything else? T.I.A. Chad

I have a 75 2.7 with 40ida's with stock cis cam and original pistons but with ssi's and a 73 rs exhaust. You won't get a huge hp gain(15 hp) without changing out the p&c's and cam but you will gain a lot of throttle response and great sound.

I went from CIS to Weber 40IDA's on my 3.0 litre engined '74 Carrera and couldn't be happier. You will need to dyno tune your engine after going to Webers. I found around 25hp with Webers, headers and 2 in 2 out exhaust. My car has to be road legal but is basically a full on track car but is very drivable on the road. I still have the stock SC cams and pistons which will go when I freshen the engine. Go for it!

Hey New Zealand - Again,
Sorry about that. Hit the wrong button. Anyway, just curious if you have to trouble with air pollution crap on your cars. Regards, Jerry Weiland

Thanks for the response guys!
Yes, I already have SSI's and the motor I bought also has the old school 2 in 2 out, so I'm going to run that, too. I love that look. To be honest, i didn't think I would gain hp. I just like the look of carbs. There's so much more room in the engine compartment and the look is a lot cleaner. I will also have it dyno tuned (which I never did with the CIS, but I should have). I can't wait! ![]()

Chad - yes Webers installed definitely look cleaner and my car seems to run a bit cooler but that might be just part of the whole package with less stuff in the engine compartment and better breathing from the exhaust system. I dyno'd the 3.0 with CIS and then after the Webers were installed for a while and when I went to headers - it is the throttle response that is real handy at the track.
Jerry - no we don't have issues with air pollution crap on our older cars. The green brigade want to bring it in though! |
