Cleaning up Ronal Wheel help

Now that it's snowing out I want to clean up these wheels. The lips are metallic and I'm thinking they are painted. Looks like someone tried to clean them up and really scratched them up . Any Ideas how to fix this lip- repaint? Strip to bare metal? - will it be shiny aluminum underneath and I can just strip and polish? Also , the black part needs repainting as you can tell. There is a lot of white overspray on them Can i just clean up and respray or is there some coating that needs to removed first? I searched but most of the topics are on fuchs. Anybody know anything about Ronal wheels ? Thanks

I don't know if yours are polished lips, but here's what you should need.

1 can of Aircraft Remover
1 pkg of 400 grit sandpaper
1 pkg of 800 grit sandpaper
1 pkg of 1000 grit sandpaper
1 pkg of 2000 grit sandpaper
1 tin of NEVR DULL
1 tin of Mothers Billet Polish
1 pkg of microfiber cloths
1 roll of painters masking tape.

Here's the link. http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8737

If you google wheel refinishing, you'll come up with a ton of DIY solutions. all of them involve grinding or sanding off the old clearcoatfirst, and using aluminum or metal polishlast. In between that, it depends on your particular wheel or method. I'm going to try this on some tired speedlines I have.

Yeah, I've never seen them with the painted lip either. The ones I have seen in pics- on this board are either all black or all silver. Didn't realize they look that bad until you look at a close up pic of them. I just want to fix them up without doing any damage. So the biggest question I have is do I strip the silver off or just sand to rough up/clean up and respray? I wish I knew if it would be shiny underneath if I did strip and and just polish.

They're alloy wheels so they should be somewhat polish-able. Do a test spot on the backside of the wheel barrel, or if there's no tires on them, do a test spot on the outside of the barrel.

If you care not to polish the lips, then sand the existing paint to take new paint and go to it with a new finish of fresh paint. Check the condition of the old paint first though. If it looks like a poor job, then you want to remove the old paint and provide a fresh new bonding surface for the repaint.
