Re-assigned Vin number???
I don't know if any of you guys can help me out here but,
Am interested in a 930 that has an interesting if not dubious background: Owner rubbed up the DEA the wrong way and his car was investigated/accused stolen. The car is made up of different parts ... originally 86 930, upgraded engine , slant nose conversion and 964 rear end!. The outcome I was told, is that the car was 'issued a new VIN' ???. The Car's condition is very good cosmetically, looks professionally converted. It is being offered with an engine which is being quoted as having 20,000 miles (from an '88 930). Car has new leather inside and Compomotive 17" wheels (v. nice). The cars resale value is obviously lower than a standard 930 with 20,000 miles as it is made from several cars!. Questions: Does the re assigned VIN no. cause any problems? How can I confirm the mileage/condition of '88 motor?. Price for car $34,000 Car is being offered by a reputable, major Turbo Porsche Garage in S. Florida, no names!. Thanks Guys! Ben |

Hi Ben,
IMO, that car should only be considered if you intend to keep it forever, never selling it. It sounds like quite a mixup of parts. If it was a full bown race car, that would be understandable, but not for a road car. I would turn away, especially for that kind of money. You can surely find more legitimate cars i that price range. My $0.02, GeorgeK |

Have the police run the "new" VIN number and see what pops up. This should help you make the decision. I also think the price is too high as is.
