Where Can I find This Part?

I'm trying to find a part for one of my Bosch headlights. Its on an 86 Carrera Turbo Look. The part I need is plastic and locks into the back of the reflector housing and the H4 lamp (9004) slips into it. A large plastic lock nut then secures the lamp into this piece. The one in the headlight now melted the tabs that lock the piece into the reflector housing. I can't seem to find the part anywhere. The parts diagrams do not show this piece. Anybody know what this is called and where to get one?

Does anybody know of a source for bosch headlight parts? Maybe some exploded parts diagrams? Did the 86 Carrera come with H4 lamps? HELP

and no the H4 lights are metal - the H5's are plastic and prone to melting.

The piece I need is not on the diagram. It connects to the back of the reflector and the lamp slides into it. Then the plastic nut tightens the lamp down onto this piece. You can see the lamp but not the piece it slides into.

I know what piece you are talking about. Its on the H5 and is part of the light assembly not shown on the diagram above.

Its also the part that melts when the high wattage bulbs are used. I need one myself and have looked around. Try dcauto or another dismantler.

Shaun, that is the wiring terminal for the lamp. The piece I'm looking for holds the lamp in the back of the reflector. The lens and reflector assembly is shown from the front but if it had a rear view you would see it.

Is a Sylvania HB1 9004 lamp too hot for this headlamp? Thats what the car had in it when I bought it back in Sept. OK you guys, maybe I need a good H4 conversion kit? I don't really want to spend that much right now but maybe later. If so what are you using?

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Here's the diagram from the PET. I'd call one of the Porsche salvage yards if this part isn't available, or post on Classifieds.

h5

Here's the back of an H5(pic lifted from another post by sean357)

The part I think you are referring to is the removable socket (white circle piece) under the star shaped part holding the bulb in place.

THATS IT!!! Allright!! Thanks to you I know its a H5 piece. I wonder why it isn't shown on the diagrahm. Oh well, at least I know what to look for now. I think it might be called a "bulb retainer." Thank you very much for the help guys.

It is item #32 in the Drawing. The Part number is 928-631-960-00.

You can order it from Pelican:

928-631-960-00-OEM Bulb Retainer, 911 (1987-89) $2.50

Hi HarryD. #32 on the pellican drawing is just the plastic lock nut. Not shown is the piece the lamp slips into. If You look at Monza's photo you will see the off white backside of the reflector. The white circular piece on top of that is the part that locks into the reflector body and holds the lamp. Then the lamp is slid into that white piece and the O ring on the lamp holds it lightly in place. The green lock nut has 3 tabs that push against the lamp in the white piece. Also the green nut has "threads"(in between the green tabs) that lock the nut to the female threads on the white piece. If that white piece gets hot and damages the locking tabs you cannot securely latch the lamp in place. The lock nut in that event will securely hold the lamp into the white piece but the white piece cannot be latched into the back of the reflector. It would seem that the white piece is the most likely to need replacement but its not shown.

Gator, I have H5's as well, and I'm in a situation in which I need to replace the exact same piece you referred to. Did you ever find the part?

I wonder if this part is only sold with the headlamp unit in the above diagram (#20 & #21). I ordered part #32 and can confirm that it's not what I need. Any new ideas on this old problem?

Pretty sure the part you are looking for is not a separate piece. It is part of the lens/reflector assembly. They are $160.00+. I will be switching to H4's as soon as I have time to get them installed and am waiting to get my trim rings painted to match the car.

I think you're right. I'll see if Pelican can get me in touch with someone from Bosch who might be able to help. Thanks.

Bosch confirmed that the piece in question was sold only with the headlight reflector/assembly. I contacted alloemautoparts.com, and they weren't interested in separating the part from the headlight. I guess I'll have to buy a headlight to get the part :-/
