Trying to budget for next year...

After 3 years of trying, and getting pre-empted by work, unexpected family expenses, or just plain poor planning, I'm looking at trying to hit 2-3 driving events next year, especially a couple of DE's. Plan is to set the funding set aside now, book some time off, find a place for the kids to spend extended weekends and just freaking make it happen.

So, my question - if one were to budget....what's a fair amount to set aside? All inclusive of track fees, housing etc.

I'd be driving the targa to the event, and would likely stay in hotels near the venues. Mid-Ohio is typically where I'd be heading - less than half a day's drive.

Any advice?

I budget $1K per DE and $2K per race, the main difference being tires. It can be done for less, but this is a fairly conservative number that should ensure you won't run out of money half way through summer.

Something always comes up and you don't want to end up hurting for cash if you want to splurge on some event T-shirts or whatever.

You need to get the car ready too, and that is a whole other thread, covered many times on this board.

3 day event....

$325 track
$250 lodging
$100 tech inspection
$150 fuel
$100 meals

Plus for the season as a whole...

$200 helmet
an oil change and a set of brake pads beyond what you would already need
Plus another couple of hundred for misc issues

Ouch.... I should not have typed that. Not sure I can afford this any more.

I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

Thanks gents...

Depends on the event from what I've seen, but mostly they are multi day.

The car's basically ready except for the new shoes and brake pads. Before I go dropping the coin for a set of track wheels, I want to get a few drives in. Oil changes and maintenance I do annually anyhow. But I do need a better helmet, that's figured into the Christmas budget...

There's a good group that does a lot of autocrosses locally, planning on trying those out for a bit as well, if anyone local's interested, lemme know and I'll send on the organizers info.
