Any way to get basic car info without COA ?

I'd like to know what color my old 912 was originally, but not so eager to orger to order the full certificate, given the scarcity of information I've receive in the past for my 356s...

On the bimmer sider, I emailed BMW about my 1973 2002 and got basic information the next day... "The BMW 2002 US VIN 2###### was manufactured on April 5th, 1973 and delivered on April 11th, 1973 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Inka, paint code 022.We hope this information is helpful for you."

nice huh ? Is there some way I can get the original color of my porsche without forking over the money ? An alternate source with minimal info ???

What is the paint code on the plate on the forward driver's door jamb?

Should say "Kunstharzlack" and then a number. Report that number here for the answer.

I actually tracked down the current dealer based on the window sticker that came with my car (dealer had since been sold sometime in the late '80's). They were super enough to take my VIN and call PCNA. I didn't get a whole lot of info, but they were able to give me the original color, engine number, etc. I was at least able to verify that the engine and tranny were original.

+1 on madmmac's comments.
