what size tire are you looking to run?
If it's a 245 there's not much point to a 10 (versus a 9) but it'll probably fit. If it's a 275 the 10 is a good choice for the tire but it'll end up too wide and will rub. A 275 on a 9 is generally accepted as the widest that will fit without heavy coaxing. I've seen 9.5's and 10's but usually the paint is burned off the fender and at least one or two sets of tires are cut in the process of tweaking the car and finding the right combination of 1-2mm spacers.

this may sound not smart to some, but over the winter i plan to lower the car too low, when i say too low i mean it will not handle as well etc, but i like the look ok a super low car with some nice wide wheels maybe a 245 on 10, id ideally like to run a bbs style mesh 17 inch wheel if possible

the lower it goes the harder the wide stuff is to fit. A setup that's too wide will rub under the fender about 3-4" up from the fender lip...that's how the paint bubbles.
To get even the 275 on a 9 to fit you need to reconfigure oil lines on the right side and shave the alignment adjusting nuts on the spring plate. The tire will rub in those places. You also need a lot of camber and that's not a good thing for the street. Again, on lowered race cars, the 275 on a 9 works with the above mod's. A 9.5 works if you man handle the fenders. The 10 i think works on cars that had SC flares put on and for whatever reason had an extra few mm of clearance due to the grafting of the fenders. Stretching a 245 on a 10 is not worth anything and is general frowned upon by the tire manufacturers but if you like the look....

That's about what a race set up with 275's looks like. I don't think you need to go 10 to get that. Here's my car with 9's and 255's.

I have 10" on the rear (1984 911 nb cab) with 275 35 17" with no issues, fits perfect. The only problem that I have is to find a new set of 275 tires. Does anybody know where to get them?

The shorter the tire the easier it'll fit as proven by sharahm.
sharahm, did you mount them yourself or buy the car that way? keep in mind that these cars each have their own personality. A 10 might fit for sharahm but maybe not for you. go with the 18 if you want less meat.

I mounted them by myself. 3 piec BBS, guess offset is 13. I will post pictures on Monday when I am back home from my current business trip. But as I said I have a hard time to find the tires.

What the ?

I'm in the process of getting 10's for my 80SC, but i do have to roll the fender and re-route the oil line to get the 275's in there, but i do track the car and a good amount of commute driving. I'll post shots when it is done.

You'll need drop links for the front end, and my guess is you'll need to send the shocks to Bilstein for custom valving.
Then, the first time you hose it up going across an intersection or into a driveway, you'll bump it up to a realistic height.

I know that Fikse makes 17's with the correct offset to run 8.5 up front and 10 in the rear on a narrow bodied car. This allows for 245's up front and 275's in the rear.

Ed's right. When the apron to a gas station causes a loud shrieking and splintered fiberglass, and everybody turns and stares, 'low' loses some of its fun. But you can run 245/275 under RS/SC/Carrera flares with a few tweaks (repositioned oil line, machined-down spring plate bolt, extra camber, rolled fender lips).
