MPG on a CIS

There was a "3.2 MPG thread" and it appears that the Motronics get better MPG.

MIKE635 supposedly was getting 27MPG on his CIS.

I get 19 MPG :eek:on my '83 CAB with SSI:). BTW, before the SSI and before fuel enrichment (when it was stock) I also used to get around 26MPG.

What do you guys get?

P.S.,

How many gallons does a factory '83 SC tank hold?

Thanks.

16 mpg or so punching it around town. Got 25 once w/windows closed on freeway at sustained 80-90 mph. I also have SSIs. 20 gal. gas tank. Yeah, Carreras get mo betta mileage but don't have the fun throttle response of CIS :D.

I average 15 mpg on mine. But my right foot weighs 1,000 pounds. :D

Oh, I know! I bought the damned car for fuel economy - boy am I disappointed!!

I get 27-28 mpg on the highway with my bone-stock SC (that's a lot of range on road trips). I've never bothered to try to get a measure for around-town driving.

For the record, I get a pretty regular 21-22MPG with my bone-stock 3.2 in mixed, but predominantly freeway, driving ... not sure how the 28MPG crowd accomplishes their task.

p.s. mine is a RoW with SSI's Perhaps there is a difference in the US version?

on freeway at a constant 70 mph with old CIS & 2.7 was 25-26 mpg.

same routine in a stock '88 3.2 was 24-25 mpg.

I get 15-16 around town (thanks for making me not feel bad, DGlenn). I have gotten 24 highway at constant 70mph but that was with airpump and cat installed but really, really lean--which I've of course fattened up since then.

acapella8 12-07-2007 04:19 PM

I get about 16mph too. ROW with SSI's as well. Rock on.:D

Rick V 12-07-2007 04:38 PM

20 mpg, all stock with the exception of a test pipe.

Yeah! Like 9.8:1 cr & 20 hp more than U.S. spec.? (33 hp more w/SSIs & sport muffler).

16 mpg in combined driving. I've owned my SC for almost five years now and its fuel efficiency has been the same throughout.

honestly, my car is all over the place. one time, driving to thunderhill, i was following another pelican. we had a day of tracktime planned and we were hecka early. therefore we both just putted along. no faster than 65. i filled up when i left, and at the chevron by the track, i calc'd 33 mpg. i was stunned and so was my buddy. at the track i got 13! hehehe. i typically get 18 in combined driving.

Dave Nordhoff 12-07-2007 06:24 PM

25 highway and 10 at the track in my 80 SC.

I got about 20-24 in my '79 SC. Getting a few more MPG with the C2 but it runs on Premium!

I was thinking more along the lines of the mileage. Do the weaker :D US versions get better mileage?

osidak 12-10-2007 06:53 AM

when i first got it I saw 24 to 26 mpg - then added ssi's and an oe sport exhaust and advanced the cam timing a hair and it is around 18 if I mostly behave. Seen it dip as low as 14 on spirited driving days

mine is a ROW car as well

petrolblue83911 12-10-2007 07:06 AM

straight highway I get mid to upper 20's, stock motor cis, with ssi's/exh bkdate. city/overall average I'd estimate 19-21

overman 12-10-2007 07:48 AM

Checked my SC while returning from RennSport Renuion III... averaged 25.6 @ 75-80 MPH north bound I-95. 1st time I've logged the fuel mileage... purchased the car in May 98.

Wayne.
