Got back to the UK from the US yesterday. Picked my 911 which had had a topend rebuild and had been timecerted. The mechanic took me out in the car to show me it running, he stopped at a pedestrian crossing for someone to cross. A skidding noise was heard from behind and, BANG! A car went straight in the back of me at I guess 30 - 40 mph. The rear bumper is OK but distorted, the dampers on it are entirely squashed, the exhaust is blowing, the over-riders are damaged and one light cluster. His car had no damage and the bodywork was fine on mine. Both the mechanic and I have sore necks - going to see a Doctor and I got a witness to it all. The car after the rebuild is perfect, running much quieter and much quicker.
It was a credit to the car to have such minimal damage. He was insured and rear enders are always at fault insurance wise here - if my car hadn't been waiting for someone to cross he would of run the person on the crossing over.... ------------------ '75 911S Targa http://member.aol.com/asaffery/my911s.html |

Moron must have assumed green anywhere meant "go". I guess America doesn't have a complete lock on boneheads... har har

What the heck was he driving, a bicycle? That is not much damage for a 30-40 mph impact! I'd hate to see my car after being hit at that speed by, say, a Crown Vic. Glad to hear your car is okay, I really like that lime green with the yellow tag and Euro tail lights!

I got rear ended in September of 2000 at about the same speed. What I thought was amazing was the fact that the car was able to be driven away from the accident. I didn't actually drive it, but it could have been.
My car sustained no damage to the muffler either! A few positive things came out of the accident: 1. His insurance totalled the car & didn't take possesion...so in addition to a full paint job, c2 rockers, & a RUF replica rear bumper (to match my front spoiler)...I got some nice new restoration extras (turbo tail & engine cover, brand new dash, all new seals, new door panels, power windows, new windshield, & new headliner)...ALL paid for by his insurance company. 2. I got the official valuation report of the car from his insurance company. I've been tempted to post this info...you guys let me know if you're interested. It details & values each upgrade along with the value of a stock car. Oh yeah, my car is a forest green '79sc. Check it out in the Porsche Owners Gallery. (sorry, I didn't know how to post the link!) |

Beautiful car, Chris... I've always liked the forest green color (have seen it on a lot of MG's). Maybe that colo(u)r is a British favorite.
I really like the looks of the front & rear bumpers. Would those items fit an '85 Carrera model? Thanks. jlex. |

It's not called BRG (British Racing Green) for nothing!

Thanks guys...
A writer in 911 & porsche world magazine wrote that this green was the RUF racing team color in the late seventies & early eighties. The front & rear are from Better Bodies, but its sold in a number of places...they have narrow & wide body kits for 74-89, so I assume they fabricate these for the '85 Carrera also. |
