Porsche 911 2.4T 1973 MFI, wich oil and wich fuel?
Hi, i have a Porsche 911 T 1973 2.4 MFI (the lasts ones
) i want to put everything in order on the car because the previous owner was a disaster, a really disaster.but first things first. Wich kind of oil should i use? I mean, mineral, semi-sintetic, sintetic and also wich grade 10W-40 20W-50 5W-50, etc.. The car is mainly used on weekends 1 or 2 hours around 60miles and at high speed. the temperature there is on winter around 10ºC and in summer around 25ºC. And also i want to know wich kind of fuel use. Here we have 95 RON and 97 RON and some places 87RON (but very bad quality) should i add any kind of additive like "liqui moly lead substitute"? Thanks!!!! Ariel |

Your engine has a very low compression ratio so you can use any quality fuel. In the states that would be 87 octane R+M/2 or above. We call that regular. Your owners manual should specify the requirements for fuel and oil. As far as oil goes, in your mild climate I would use any high quality 10w-30 non synthetic oil. There is a long thread on the inadequacy of the latest generation of oil that you might want to look at.

Yip, mineral oil. I'm using 20W50 in my 911t, but I drive the car only wenn the weather is nice (read: warm)
Fuel: use the best you can get and use a lead-replacement every 3 times you tank gaz. |

Non-synthetic is just fine. For most users, 15w40 and 20w50 are the most appropriate oils. I don't like 10w30 or 10w40 as most of these oils fall under the pitfalls of the newest API specifications and may not provide sufficient protection (AW additives or film strength). Synthetic 0w40 or 5w40 may be ok, you just need to read the label.

"wich oil and wich fuel?"
Given the spelling of which - are you in another country? Could make a difference in your options.

I use Kendall GT 20-50 dino oil and 92 octane non-oxygenated fuel
in my "T" with excellent results. Also, Swepco in the 915 gearbox.

Which motul is that - the 6100 or 2000 series 15w40? Either would probably be fine. The Tekma diesel oils would also be good. Again, which Liqui moly 15w40 - from what I see, it too is an API SG rated oil. I would go with the Liqui Moly or Motul oils over the big name players liek Shell, Valvoline, or Castrol.

The valves and seats should be "hardened" in your '73 so there is no need for a lead substitute (although from my experience the additional lubrication provided by the lead substitute certainly won't hurt anything). Hope this helps.
