Attention Garage Lighting Fanatics

I'm seeking a portable lamp that is usable under the car and throws enough light to enable my feeble eyes to see into dark dirty corners. A lot of products have come along since I bought my last 110v trouble light. I see led lamps, rechargeables, etc etc. Are you enthusiastic about something you are using? Tell us about it, and why you like it.

i've tried everything from cordless led to hand held to magnetic. for my money nothing beats this:

Craftsman 13 watt Fluorescent Work Light with 10' 16 ga. 3-Wire Cord - Tools - Garage Organization & Shelving - Work Lights

with hooks on either end i can hang it anywhere easily.

I love this light:

Cordless LED Work Light - Lighting & Power - In Your Garage - Griot's Garage

This is what I am going to buy for when I need even more light:

52 LED Power Phase[REG] 25' 18/2 SJTOW Corded Work Light w/Magnet Holder | Fastenal

To be honest, the Griots LED has been all I have needed.

My wife bought me a LED light for XMAS that straps onto your head like a John McEnroe head band. It looks a little goofy at first. However, Its the best XMAS gift I received. Sure beats holding the greasy maglite in my teeth. Just performed Rotor replacement, rebuilt calipers, cleaned/repacked inner CV joints (while still attached to the car), performed a clutch bleed with the car on Jack stands. Saw everything. It was awesome!

I had that one and the only problem I always seemed to have is, once hung the cord would always want to twist it AWAY from where I wanted it to point! It puts out good light and was handy, though eventually I dropped it enough times by hitting the cord and unhooking it that it exploded.. So for klutz's that get annoyed easily (me) I would go (and just did) for the cordless, rotating hanger, LED light..

I have an LED cordless, and it can be great, ot not so great. Trouble is, it throws a narrow pattern of light. It can be tough to position well. Be careful of that aspect, they aren't like the old Fl or incan that were more omnidirectional.

I've had work lights on stands for years, and that's what I use when it's time to get serious about lighting my work area. The new models that have detachable light heads are dual-use, and I use lights like these under the car and on top when you have to get real work done, and need to be serious about not being slowed down by darkness.

I bought 3 of these to mount on my lift...versatile, you can use the hooks, floor stands or buy magnet clips to attach to metal.

I found that this guy solves that problem. You squeeze the coil spring that forms the hook and rotate the body of the lamp. it's not that clear from the pic, but it is about 1/3 shielded. only prob I had is that the end of the lamp is also translucent which I had to tape over to prevent it from triggering my auto-darken welding helmet.

Anyone have experience with Cooper Might D Light? Led bulbs are 60W equivalent, bigger than most anything here, about $40. Looks like a lot of light for the money.

Aside from a hand held or light stands, I LOVE this thing:

BlackDiamond HeadLamp

Once it's on your head, you can angle it down or straight out. The only thing to be careful of, is not hitting it on your car if you forget it's on your head.

Second plus on the headlamp. I've got an Everready as I recall - got it at the hardware store. Has both spot and flood settings.

For a point of reference I have this Energizer head band which I am happy with.

Energizer-Eveready 06481 HD4L33AE Eveready Energizer Headlamps Hat Light at eLightBulbs.com

It puts out 28 lumens which is pretty bright (it ain't 28 except for the first half hour). The black diamond head band has 100 lumens which for old eyes would be awesome at the expense of faster battery drain. The black diamond uses 4 vs 3 AAA batteries.

I've got four or five of these- A few here at home, a few more at the airport hangar. Couldn't be happier.

I have a single housing I mounted on a piece of 2x6 - it sits on the floor and shoots light up at an angle.

The rest of mine are mounted up high on the walls around the car. They were a cheap way to add light - $10 each.
