911SC - wiring issue at panel
Hi guys, I’ve recently been contending with a very low amperage draw. Since I started working from home a few months ago, my car doesn’t get driven much, so I’ve come out to the occasional dead battery.
I’ve isolated the issue to two small wires in a black sheath near the fuse panel - one is red and been run to the bottom of 17 (always hot) and the other is black with a red stripe ran to the top of 11(the flasher relay/reverse light fuse). I think in my car (w/o heated windshield) should only have the wire running to the hazard switch from the bottom of 17. Confirmed no issues with that wire, the hazard switch, or the flasher relay (at least disconnecting them one at a time had no effect on draw). Removing the red wire from 17 fixes the amperage leak. I started the car, starts fine, everything appears to work. Turn the car off and moments later try to restart - nothing. Hook the red wire (in sheath with the black with red stripe) back up, and it starts no problem. Had to put away my toys for the night, but any idea what these two wires may do? I did not attempt to disconnect the black w/ red stripe from the top of 11. My car did at one point have a factory alarm, and looking through wiring diagrams, it looks like a red and a black w/red stripe ran to the relay socket from two separate fuses- just not these. That system had been disconnected by the time I bought the car, but no idea how (it doesn’t look like the typical jumpers at relay fix). Any idea what I may be dealing with? Thanks in advance! |

What year is your 911SC? Will post a factory wiring diagram.

Thanks, Greg - it’s an ‘83 and I do have a wiring diagram - I should have mentioned clearly that the two wires are not where they should be for the alarm, but they don’t fit the description of anything that should be on those fuses.
Based on some photos from ebay ads, I think I am dealing with the alarm harness. I disconnected the red wire again yesterday and cycled through several starts without issue, so it may have just been a fluke the other day. I’d still like to find where the wire is going since it was drawing current. |
