I would like to manufacture an engine stand
in anticipation of the "big drop", and the cost and inconvenience of importing the Skyway Tools unit, with our dollar approaching 40 cents U.S is impractical. Can any body provide me with the dimensions of the plate that bolts to the case half, please. I'm sure I can figure out the rest, and I would like to do it prior to the removal of the eng./g'box. Thanks Bob |

Bob, unless you really want to get into making it yourself, a regular engine stand will work. All you have to do is drill different holes in the lower arms. Do a search on this site for "engine stands" and you will find a post that has a great picture of a regular stand with a 911 engine on it. I just pulled my engine and have it sitting on a regular stand. These stands cost around $50-$80 U.S. If you don't find the posting, let me know and I will take a couple of pics of my stand and engine and post them here.

Thanks guys...getting ready for the big drop too. This post saved me a ton of $...was actually considering the official P-engine stand adapter.

What I found to work best of all was one of those cheap engine stands just like in the photo--$39.95 from Northern Tool--plus the "engine stand adapter" that Stoddard sells for use with such a stand. It's a simple, not-too-expensive, properly flanged, strong half-circle of steel with threaded holes to which the case is fastened plus holes for fastening it to the engine stand. Page 135 of the Stoddard catalogue, p/n T55.201.300, $150.

That's not a bad idea at all, I borrowed a standard 911 stand to use when splitting the case. Couldn't easily do it with the above setup.
