Sport muffler question
Have any of you ever shortened the pipes on a dual sport muff? Any idea if it affects performance and impact on the joyful noise?
Could it be modified for 2 side exits like Nickshu's? Mark ------------------ Mark B. Wilson mbwilson@home.com http://www.marksobsessions.20m.com/ '70 911E |

I did - cut them off to maybe 8" because they were so long I had scraping trouble in driveways etc.
Unfortunately I didn't use it for long before doing this so I don't know about the impact on perf. or sound. I did notice however that the muffler was LOOOUUUUUD. Ran it for a couple years, then sold it before I lost the rest of my hearing... |

Mark,
There is not problem with cutting the outlets shorter. They are only pipes to direct the exit of exhaust, so they really serve little functional purpose. I had looked into cutting a hole in the right side of my factory dual-in single-out muffler and adding a second outlet. This would work fine as the ends of the muffler house expansion chambers. However, this does nothing to alter the internal baffles to equalize exhaust to the left and right. I understand it will be VERY loud if you do this, and exhaust may not exit equally. But, you COULD do it and it would probably work ok. Hope this helps. Nick. ------------------ _ _ __ _ _ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe nickshu@yahoo.com |
