Car Stolen!-FOUND!

Hi all,

I know it's a long shot, but my car was stolen this weekend (along with 2 laptops with all my work on them for a total of $6000 of stuff inside) in San Francisco, so if you happen to see it or any parts of it floating around, I'd love a holler. Then they used my checkbook and ATM card and spent $2200. And then unrelatedly, I got hit on my Bianchi bicycle by a car that ran a stop sign and it's pretty well trashed too. So now I'm walking everywhere with a helmet on. -ish. I'm not dead yet though! Lojack time in the future.

Picture below plus link to website describing the car:

So sorry to hear it! I know there's relatively no chance it'll end up in SC, but it is truly a beautiful car. Love the color and everything else about it.

Sorry to hear about your accident on the bike too. When it rains it pours, I suppose. At least you're in sunny CA where you can actually walk in relative comfort (temperature-wise).

I'll gladly let you know if I see anything (in the area or on the net). Good luck!

I remember that car from a long time ago. It's pretty unique being a Carrera with the early seats and everything in it.

Too bad about the Bianchi too, at least you're still walking...even if it is with a helmet.

I know it doesn't help, but I am sorry. At least you have a good chance of recovery up in Oakland. Here is SoCal in 2 hours or less the car is in Mexico.

It will show up and in good condition, at least that is my hope for you.

DANG!!!
Really sorry to hear that. I'll keep my eyes open down here in SoCal.

A question for the more knowledgeable on Pelican:
Would a car stolen that far north have the potential of ending up in Mexico? Would they be so bold as to drive it there or stuff it in the back of a truck?

If so, it might be heading this way.

I'll tell my peers to keep a look out. You will have an entire force looking for it in SoCal. In fact, I'll buy the cop who finds it (if it is my agency) a twelve pack. '

I have a cop friend that deals with this stuff, it is very common in SoCal.

Northern Ca. involves too much time and risk, although in a truck or trailer it might happen.

This close to the border is quite tempting and many cars are in a chop shop in Mexico before the owner even knows it is gone.

I would be willing to bet the car is only a half an hour away from the theft site.

Keep your chin up and hope for the best!

Do you now that for a Fact ? There is no Market in Mexico for this Type of cars nor parts they better stole new cars or more commercial Vehicles. A stolen Porsche nor its parts are difficult to cross the border , it makes no sense to me .

By the way the Car is a beauty I hope you will find it soon !! Those are my wishes.

I recently posted a subject on theft deterrents since I will be moving to San Diego. My goal is to rig up a system that dials my cell phone when the drivers side car door is opened. I feel your pain. I don't live in CA yet, but if I did and saw your car, I would confront the low life or lives "thieves" and send them to the ER. By the way, could you please describe the circumstance by which it was stolen, ie. location, time, if any theft deterrent devices were used etc.

Jose, I am speaking generally , a Porsche is a different beast than a Honda Prelude.

I got a bit off topic, my main point was this; The car being in Oakland is far enough away from the border to not have to worry about it ending up in Mexico.

I think it will be found...I hope soon!

cheers

thanks for all of the sympathy/encouragement all. i'm really bummed about everything.

as for the circumstances, the car was parked on a busy street (bush street, a major artery) near union square in the evening on saturday. no theft deterrent (just bought the car, was getting a stereo+security system for xmas). car was locked, no valuables visible, all in trunk.

also of note is that the car still has (had) the WA plates on it (925 UWY); i was still waiting for my personalised CA ones.

yes, i know. my life is a constant string of "woulda, coulda shoulda" right now. i was going to put the car in a parking garage, and pulled into one, and then they shooed me out bc it was full...if only.

Oh my, so much for our older P-cars being not as desirable for thieves. I don't get it, it would be difficult to sell those parts, too obvious it was stolen, especially if you run the VINs.

I you sure you weren't being targeted for your PCs? Just a thought.

Gosh sorry to hear your pain. I just installed Keyless Entry, better use it in conjunction with the Factory Alarm.

You guys are making me nervous, I usually park with the thought that no one would really want the older cars because they are too easily traced, and not too marketable. I mean, imagine if someone stole the 959 - what would they do with it? I guess I need to rethink this...

i'm hoping that it was for the contents of the car and not the car itself. the fact that by the next morning, they had spent $2200 with my debit card says to me they were interested in the contents mostly. that's my last hope that i might recover the car whole, albeit with a salvage title. i just want the car back; it's such a unique car (in my opinion of course) and of course i'll lose my shirt with the insurance. if it comes to that point, i'll probably need references/comps for the car's value as well.
