Rear shock question
Am I correct to think an alignment, ride height adjustment and corner balance aren't required when R&R-ing the 911's rear shocks?
Thanks

Unless,......................unless one is installing Bilstein shocks instead of Boge or Koni's.
These high-pressure gas shocks will raise the ride height anywhere from 1/4" to 3/8" and that requires a re-alignment. ![]()

I can atest to the height increase when I install the Bilstein HD's as replacements to the Boges. My car was ready for the Paris-Dakar Rally. The American road height was bad enough, but when I installed the Bilsteins, it was up up and away. Presently my car is in the process of being lowered, corner balanced and aligned, as well as receiving new torsion bars, poly-graphite bushings and turbo tie rods. Can't wait til its done.

If you measure the height before you do the swap and then adjust the spring plates to get the same height after ward the rest of your alignment will be fine. You must make sure to move both sides the same amount for this to work.

Going from my old, dead (presumably) factory shocks to Koni yellows I gained a good inch of height in the rear.

Totally incorrect actually, for many of the reasons stated. One will actually see a differnce with Koni adjustable shocks as well as the bilstien.
If your shock replacement results with an "as before" ride height, then yes, you probably do not need an alignment or corner balance..... Cheers

Again, you can "jack" wieght into the car even with a similar ride height. Though not normally from just playing with one end of the car. But I have done it with screwing with both ends...... Cheers
