Rob
Bob at APPBIZ here. We manufacture most of the RS panels sold. Pelican sells ours. We send instructions with all our panels. Perhaps you purchased some made by another company. The installation on an 81 SC is fairly straightforward. If you call my secretary Teresa tomorrow and provide her witha FAX number she will be happy to FAX them to you, and you are welcome to call me with any questions. Bob 310-539-6183 Who did you purchase these from? |

Door panel
Bob,
You've always been helpful to me. Awhile ago, my better half, who is in our house in Atlanta bought me a set of your carpet...you personally made sure it was in stock so it could be shipped asap and in time for my 38th birthday -- for that, thanks so much! To be honest, she bought these panels for me for xmas and they are the ones with the short, smile shaped handles (these are actual made of a pretty sturdy material...it feels like a heavy aluminum wrapped in the "pleather"). the panels themselves are thin (ply) wood. Overall, I gotta say, I am happy with the build quality, I just cannot for the life of me figure out which screws are used for the handle as there are no washers for the screw which seem applicable and the heads of all the screws fit thru the hole drilled in the board...so, you can see where I am having difficulty. Additionally, the body shop removed my old panels to paint and didn't reinstall, so I am at a loss as to how the mechanics work there with the nylon straps etc. Any help from anyone is appreciated...bob, I will be getting trunk carpet from you and possibly visors in the next few weeks...look forward to it. Rob

Well Rob they definately did not come from us. Ours are die cut from panel board (A water resisitant fiberboard specifically designed for door panels). We also laminate a high density foam sound dampening layer on the side that touches the door All this is done prior to the panel being cut by a 110 ton Full head (30" x 60") press. We do not cut them out of plywood, to much variation and margin for error. Guessing they are from OFI.
We also use a much sturdier system to attach the handles. It is a metric treaded insert and contersunk 5mm stainless steel screws, The handes we manufacture have a mild steel inner core and a dimple on each end to recess that screw. We found that aluminum was unsuitable and had tooling made to have the steel cores punched out. Give me call tomorrow and we will send you some instructions and sort out what you need to make the panels your wife purchased for you usable. Bob 310-539-6183 |

Bob,
I called your secretary today but I don't think she has gotten around to faxing the directions; that said, I am almost 100% positive this guy just threw together some screws for assembly as the ones that hold the handles on and the weashers...none of the stuff works with each other! That said, it'd be nice to see what went where in the event I am wrong or for when I go by home depot to get the correct stuff (lol) Should I call her again, or would that be a nuisance? btw, she bought them from Blackforestbrad on ebay, is he a pelicanite?

Wow. Bob, that is awesome of you to help a guy out like that even though the panels were not bought from you. Great service. Once I finish my engine work and can spend the money on my new panels I will certainly be buying them from you. Thanks for being a stand up guy.

Rob I'm thinking you can enlarge the holes on the handle and use our metric treaded insert and contersunk 5mm stainless steel screws, The 5mm metric inserts are not generally stocked by hardware vendors, we buy several thousand at a time from and industial suppiler. We always have a large quantity on hand.
Our kits also use 4mm stainless stainless screws and trim rings along the bottom. and since we die cut the panels they line up exactly with the existing treaded holes for the door pockets. Often the sets cut individaully with saws don't line up and you need to drill new holes in the door and use self tapping sheet metal screws. If yours line up reasonably well with these holes you could use these. The opener strap on our kit is attached to the "bell crank" with a 5mm hex bolt and a NYLOCK nut. The nylock is VERY VERY important, you really don't want this comming loose. Bob 310-539-6183 Last edited by appbiz; 12-21-2007 at 07:31 AM.. |

Bob is a class act. My rs door panels and carpet kit fit great. Additionally, the anodized aluminum bezels are beautiful and really compliment the panels.

As I am quickly learning...do not let the wife buy you parts for xmas....get the money and buy them yourself. If anyone knows "lackforestbrad", ask him to send me my directions....please?
