Driving home today the clutch pedal did the following: released normally past the point of engagement , then a momentary hesitation for the last bit of travel before snapping back to the fully released position.
Clutch was replaced 12K ago, new release spring ( the one near the release lever). I don't believe the cable was renewed and I have never cleaned the pedal cluster in my ownership, nor have the bushings in the cluster been replaced. She has 52K I guess I am lucky this popped up now cause I have a track event next weekend , but I kinda pissed because this won't leave a lot of time to deal with it! I will examine the pedals , cable , spring and release lever in the morning. I need the help and thoughts of my esteemed fellow enthusiasts , HELP!! Any words of wisdom Guys????????? ------------------ Bob 1982 911SC Targa PCA - Founders Region |

when you're checking stuff, also look hard at the rollpin that holds the clutch pedal to it's shaft. often overlooked while you disassemble everything else to find the problem.

Is it possible or likely that this could be something as simple as the clutch pedal return spring. I forgot to mention that last weekend after running multiple errands and lots of miles with my little girl in the 911, ( How's that for a great Saturday!)I did notice that the pedal seemed lighter, kind of less stiff?

It sounds like you need a new cable to me. Go ahead and check everything, but replace the cable, for sure, with plenty of moly grease (Swepco 101) applied over the whole length of the cable.

I sound like a repeating record, but cannot stress the change when I rebuilt my pedal 'box with bronze bushings, replaced the clutch cable, and finally the helper (horseshoe) spring under the trans. Night and day. You should do this if you have treated yourself to a fresh clutch.
The pin JohnW is talking about is one that holds the clutch pedal arm to the shaft that transverses the pedal 'box (this piece is included in the bronze bushing kit from Pelican). The pedal shaft ends up in the center tunnel where its "ear" connects to the clutch cable by way of a trunnion pin and trunnion pin bush (among other things). If this bush is gone, you will feel kinking when you let off the clutch, and you will see visible wear on the "ear" as a groove: not good. Anyway, about $180.00 for everything to your door from our kind sponsor's parts bins. A fun weekend and a real eye-opener when you finish. Jw |

Well - alube of the clutch levers , return spring and adjustment of the cable has done the trick. Bentley noted that might be a problem and a shot of wd 40 verified I was in the right area. I think warmer weather will be the time to renew the cable and check out the cluster. For now she is better than ever. Thanks for the suggestions!
