Post Can you spot the error - eBay?

This eBay car looks pretty nice, but I think I spotted a flaw in the car. It's very minor can you find it in one of the pictures?

U got me. All I can think of are the speakers behind the fold down rear seats aren't orignial?

Lovely condition car though - shame about the 'factory original' viper green colour tho - not a fave of mine. Wonder how much it'll fetch - not many in that condition around unrestored.

Looks like the front crest is missing on the bonnet (hood)in one of the shots.

Maybe the paint is not 100% original, the crest is there in one of the earlier pictures.

A very nice car though, pity I'm several thousand miles away.

You're right about the speakers, but that's not what I was thinking about. It's more obvious than that.

Can't read the badge correclty but it looks like 2.4 instead of 2.7.

Steering looks funny also. Could it be 180deg off?

Hey, i tried!

Uh, hmmm. The bowl washers are missing from under the three door latch screws?

What a pretty car! I don't know enough to know what problems might be obvious, but I surely love the look, and the green is fine by me!

si2t3m, Yes that's what I found. The steering wheel is upside-down. Image that, such a nice car and to having to look at that everytime you drive the thing. Too funny.

PS: This is correctly a 2.4 liter CIS car, not 2.7.

It looks like the clock does not work. It's at the same time in both photos, unless he took them very close together but he is driving in one photo

Can't believe you all missed one of the most important things to look at on an old "low mileage" 911: The Speedometer!
In this instance, that speedo is obviously not the original, it is from a later car (black center needle instead of chrome).

Several things, actually! It is far from 'original' condition as it left the factory.

1. Left front 'battering-ram horn' askew ... previously mentioned.

2. Carpet has been changed to a contrasting charcoal brown ... originally it would have been a very close match to the tan color!

3. The supposedly 'original leather covers' are not correct for a '73, as leather seats had cloth 'inserts' with herrinbone pattern in ivory/brown pattern for '73!

4. Ad writer specified 'no galvanized treatment ' ... which, of course, is wrong, as the floorpan was galvanized, beginning in the summer of 1970!

5. Ad writer also specified no undercoating whatsoever, which is blatantly wrong from the closeup of the underbody! The factory applied Tectyl 'orange-peel' undercoating is clearly under the Viper-green paint!

6. The engine is described as the 'rare and desirable CIS' version of the 'T' engine and supposedly more reliable than the MFI version ... hogwash!

7. The rear taillamp lenses are Euro-spec, hardly original red to match the USA-spec 'battering-ram horns'!

8. The sump oil strainer plate is mounted incorrectly! The drain plug should be on the left side of the crankcase!

Spare Fuchs was original equipment in '73.

Gheeez Warren,
Wish you had been there when I bought my car!
I could have knocked 'em down another couple of 'thou!'.
I reckon you could start up something here!.
People could take pics of prospective cars for you to give the 'once over!' for a reasonable fee of course!.

With that in mind I would never show you a close up of my car now!. 'Ignorance is bliss'

Talking

What about the wood inset in the dash. I didn't think that 911's came with that option?

I think it looks like a relatively nice, mostly original car, and fairly described.
I'd want to find out documentation on the speedo replacement, but other than that, I don't think he is hiding much (based on his ad).
He discloses that the carpets and seat coverings have been replaced. He doesn't claim them to be original (in fact says that the seats were not originally leather).
He doesn't claim the car had no factory undercoating, just that it has not had any NON-factory undercoating applied to it (which is good, nonfactory undercoating can hide all sorts of things).
The CIS is kind of "rare" in that it was only produced for 1/2 year in the small bumper years. Its a matter of opinion, but there are a lot of people that find the 2.4 desirable as a daily driver. Yeah, someone put euro lenses on it, but that is easily put back to US.
He does in some parts say that it has "original paint", but in others backs off and says "mostly" original! I'd be curious to know what has been repainted. Big diff between having the front valance repainted, or having everything BUT the front valance repainted.

I think you're right Jim - the car seems 'mainly' original except where the advertiser openly states that something has been changed (seat facings, carpets). Why someone would opt to fit those dark brown carpets beats me - yuk! Is it possible that some '73.5 cars left the factory with the later style speedo as parts were used up? It does state under the first picture that the total mileage is 155,000 which surprises me given the apparent condition of the car. By the way guys, how can you see that the s/wheel is upside down ? - I can't make out the crest on the horn pad in 'my' photos!

I agree with Jim, its a nice looking car, not 100% original, but pretty nice for a car that is almost 30 years old. Not perfect, but sure seems much better than 99% of Ts that you see these days.
BTW, I don't think Porsche would have used a mismatched speedo in the car, they carried over parts from year to year to use leftover parts, but a mismatched speedo from the factory seems unlikely.

I thought the "PORSCHE" lettering and "911T" badging were anodized black in 1973.
