White RSR + Black wheels.
So I'm working weekends for 3 years building an RSR replica...
It's now paint time, and I'm sort of decided on white with black wheels. Anyone have any further photos of this combination? ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think GPWhite and RSR finished wheels would look great - but that's just me. The black wheels certainly look purposeful though.

Maybe some graphics would also be nice.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ..by the way, did anyone paint an RSR olive? I quite like it, but maybe it's too classic. ![]()

What kind of wheels? Fuchs? If so, I'd do the aluminum finish in satin (like they did in the 70's). If they're the RSR-type center lock wheels, black is cool.

Jim,
I like the combo, planning that for my 911SC race car. I'm planning added graphics also.

All black wheels look like someone installed 4 spare tires on a Porsche. Black centers with natural or polished lip rock.....ymmv

Less brakes, more gas!

I hate all black wheels... they blend into the tire/wheel well and there is no definition of rim and wheel as well as loosing all the perception of depth and rim lip. It makes the car look unfinished... IMHO.
Now when the wheel has two tones, usually color and finished metal, the contrast sets off the lip and gives the wheel depth and definition. This is my preferred setup. When the rim is all one color that is not black, you get the definition of shape, but loose on the depth side. Also, if it is color matched to the car or close it will also have a tendency to blend in. I have silver wheels with no lip on a silver VW. It looks OK with the wheel style making it look as if the face of the wheel is in line with the body with no wheel well to be seen. Kinda like the gmund coupe race with wheel covers ![]() All my opinion. Just remember the only thing that matters... the caddy commercial, "When you turn on your car does it return the favor?" Fricken great line... Best regards, Michael

Jim:
I too think all 911's look fantastic in white. White sort of conjures up that race car waiting for sponsorship look. I like it! I also appreciate the all black Fuchs look on some 911's. I think wide 15" Fuchs look proper blacked out, but 16" Fuchs may look better with an RSR finish. Since you have already spent 3 years building your RSR, I say you do something that will really separate your clone from the pack. Procure a set of the five spoke center lock RSR/917 type wheels. I believe 911Teo had/is having a set made for his project. All I know is those black 5 spoke racing wheels are OFF THE HOOK and they would really set your car apart. Good luck. Mike FWIW seafoam green and slate grey would work too. |

likes to left foot brake.

Look sinister and evil try the black, over time you can try more wheel color combos.
A dark center adds depth, makes the barrel look deeper, a light colored center makes the rim look narrow. I refinished my 3 piece Fuchs a couple of times. I liked the dark Grey centers with a satin barrel. With all the tire changes it's nice to have a metal finished barrel that does not show nicks. Past good and bad color choices.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I bought my 911 and it had black fuchs with a polished lip. I did not like it. It is an in between look. Is it a race livery or a street 911. No offence to anyone out there with those rims. I just feel you cant make up your mind. I mean these are not Range Rovers with a soccer mom driving it around. So get over the Flair the lip gives. I love the ALL black rims and I love the rims with the petals painted/polished. So choose your look.
