Question Whale tails

I am looking for a whale tail or other form of spoiler for the reaar of my car(Carrera Targa). I suppose that I carrera tail would be the OEM thing to do - but it seams awful cumbersome. In comparison with the retractable (964) tail. Are they difficult to install? Any opinions on the subject?

A retractable wont work on your 88 unless you are willing to undergo some serious "remodeling" of your deck lid and engine compartment The cost of the electronic tail...(it takes it's own motor, gears and wiring) can be astronomical. I guess you really have to ask yourself what it is you want. Do you want the retractable because it is hidden when not in use, or do you want it so you can watch it go up and down? Do you not want the Carrera tail because it is to "cumbersom"? The turbo tail as you know is much larger... Me personally, since you asked, if your car has clean paint, a one piece carrera would look good painted entirely the same color as your car. No black lip... Just some thoughts, hope I could help some

I got a decklid with spoiler for $250. The power window switch for it cost $15. Labor on welding the new $50 hinges was another $65, I think.

Not exactly astronomical, but I know guys who have paid a lot more for the same thing.

Sometimes, on a slow day, I like to sit and watch it go up and down.

A Targa can look nice with a whale tail - even a Turbo tail:

Targa,

I just put some new pictures up on the Porsche Owners Gallery. I have a 86' 911 Cab
with a Carrera Whale Tail. Check out the "Rear End" picture. This is the view most people see of my car!
