Hi Guys,
I'm new to the board from sunny South Africa. I own an 85 Carrera with Pirelli rubber on 15" Fuchs. Rumour has it you can improve your acceleration by fitting lower profile tires. I'm running 215/60/15 at the back and 195/65/15 up front. Is there any truth to the rumour and if so what would be a good tire size to change to. A loss in top end speed and/or fuel economy are irrelevant to me as it's a weekend toy. PS We live about 2000m above sea level and hence lose about 17% power so all improvements are welcome. Cheers Ralph |

Ralph,
You heard correctly. Going from a 215/60-15 tire to a 225/50-15 tire would reduce the nominal diameter from 25.16" (639.1 mm) to 23.9" (607.1 mm) and help acceleration a bit in each gear. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Wolfman welcome! What kind or roads are you driving on? If you are doing lots of highway miles you may not want to go for lower profile tires (i.e. smaller diameter)
My old 911 came with a set of rubber two sizes too small and it felt like I was over-reving the engine at highway speeds. Then again an extra set of low profile tires for auto-x and track events would be a good idea. |
