Winter Driving your 911, Idaho with pictures/ add your own!

Yes, my favorite car is very dirty from the limited winter driving here in the Sun Valley are but I love taking it out. It was 5 degrees above zero F today when these shots were taken. I'll get better ones with views in the next few days. I put 4 studded winter radials from Les Schwab and its fantastic in the snow!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/smileys/smileys4.htm
How about some more winter driving shots from others? My dogs love the ride the most!

Sorry to hear that. Zero salt here. We have 6 months of winter and I couldn't wait. Heater, defrost, fans all work very well and I just feel good driving it.

It's a great winter car. Lot's of traction; no water to freeze and bust a radiator...

Takes forever to warm up though. Mine is on jack-stands, under the scalpel for a complete front suspension rebuild. Too cold in the garage to work when there is skiing to be had.

Howdy Jeff -
It's Tom from down the street. I'm jealous you were out driving today - my wife said she saw you cruising around the hood. My car is in pieces in my garage at the moment - engine and trans. are out, interior is ripped up etc... emptying my wallet for winter upgrades!

Just an FYI - I called the county road dpt. a few weeks ago before my car was completely apart and I was going through p-car driving withdrawal - to ask about salt. They told me that they DO use salt around here - not just sand. The roads up to Ketchum have been white w/it in between snows & when it's been wet - which hasn't been much lately w/the cold!

I'm tempted, but there is mag chloride all over the roads here. I haven't driven my Targa since October, though Oregonmon let me drive his '79 Coupe last night- so I got a small 'fix'! I should have the winter tires mounted up by the end of next week, so I might go for a gentle run. I'll post pics if so!

Cheers,

Paul.

Guys. I drove a Corvair for two years in Northern NH, near the Canadian border. Same rear air-cooled engine. No problem. Think I had snows in the front. No reason why the 911 shouldn't be great on snow-packed roads with proper tires. Boxster as well, though 911 should be slightly better.

Hi Tom!

Thanks for the reply. Small world, same street. I love seeing your wife and kids out walking or sliding bye; it makes this a real neighborhood. My daughter loves your dog too!

I'm now lobbying for salt removal from all road work in Idaho. I'm tucking her in until we have dry roads... maybe. I need a warm garage where I can wash it down and dry it off.

Your car is a real beauty! I'm a rookie learning. Let's get together, lots of older 911's around here.

Jeff

Wow! Excellent initiative and great pic! I would love to take out mine for a spin but, alas, as others have reported, our roads a drenched in salt all the way to April-May.

Too much snow, too much salt. Time for a rest and restoration.

No, belts for the dogs- no air bags either... the pug is cold below 70 degrees F and I don't have studs in these winter tires (4) as I said earlier; they're on the X5.

this is about all the snow we've had here, but I can tell you it has been cold the past few days! and of course I made it worse on myself...
I accidentally popped the trunk when I went to fill up yesterday afternoon. drove another hundred miles wondering where all that cold air was coming from! lol

I had to pull all the way out of the garage to hit snow this morning.

I don't have any P-car driving in the Idaho snow pics, but I do have a C-car picture of my wife and I in the snow on Galena Pass in frickin' June. That's us all Gortex'd up in the blue car. It wasn't supossed to be snowing!
