I wanted a bigger steering wheel and found this 370mm Momo Prototipo on EEbay. After checking around it looks like the same steering wheel that was on 911R's.
I used the following link as a reference: http://www.pbase.com/911r/image/25249203 It measures about 14.5'' in diameter. (The ruler in the picture is actually lined up with the edge of the wheel, the angle of the camera lens makes it appear as if it is hanging over.) It is very light compared to the 350mm Momo Monte Carlo it weighs about half as much. It has a stamp on the back that reads 7-78. ![]() ![]() ![]() I love this wheel it lets me see all the indicators and has plenty of leg clearance. Is it a 911R piece?

Bird. It's the word...

The Prototipo was used by Porsche in several of it's racers, but it was largely determined by the owner/driver what specific wheel went in. The date stamp indicates it is a 1978 wheel, and that's fine as they have been in production a long time - obviously your specific wheel is not out of a 911R, but is perfect for your 78 SC. I've got one in my 69 ST replica and love it also - it is clearly a perfect fit wheel for our cars

No, that site is wrong. The 911R used a different Momo-style wheel, with an odd-looking horn button in the center that looked like a Fuchs hubcap. I'll see if I can find a photo...

Thanks for the feedback, although my theory was debunked
It is a great size, 370mm is just right. Thanks for the picture Wayne. I still consider it a great score as I got it for next to nothing and I don't think they make these anymore.

I also think the "7 - 78" may be a date stamp, clearly making it not from an "R"....
Cheers

Your advertisement says the wheel you have in stock are 350mm, the one I have is 370mm. Do you also carry the 370mm prototipo? I would love to get one in silver. ...... Added photos of in car... From the driver perspective the clock and the oil gage are clearly visible... ![]()
