Front bumper causing poor idle?
 

I backed my SC out of the garage to remove the front bumper for a respray; After removing the bumper and 1 H4; I started it back up and it idled like it was running extremely lean and kept popping after I'd press the gas.

I guess my question is...is there a ground in the front bumper that causes a poor idle? I put stabil (gas stabilizer) in it a few weeks ago since it knew it would be sitting for quite some time.

Does Stabil or the like sink to the bottom of the tank creating an extra lean mixture of fuel?

Vacuum leak? I think there is a vacuum reservoir (silly term, I know) someplace in the LH front fender ... if there is, and the hose going to it is disconnected, you've got a big leak.

That must be it; a vacuum leak; I'll ck it out on the left side and see what I pulled...

Driver's side fenderwell, waaay up. You may have to remove the tire to get up/in there. Assuming your car is stock, you should see a charcoal cannister.

That's not where the charcoal canister typically hides, it's where Porsche put the fuel expansion tank. It is located above the large washer fluid reservoir and has two small braided cloth-covered rubber hoses attached to it with hose clamps. There is no way you could have done anything to either of those, by pulling a bumper off. You have to remove the reservoir to get near it. The two lines that are attached to it pass through the inner fender and run back towards the rear of the car along the joint between the fender and the inner fender. I'd look there first.

There is always the possibility that the timing of these two occurrences is just a coincidence and they are unrelated.

Did you jack up the front end by any chance? Another possibility could be that the car sat at an angle w/low fuel and some residue at the bottom of the gas tank shifted and is now clogging up the mesh screen at the rear outlet. The popping sounds like some junk going through with the fuel.

Whatever...to the layperson, it looks like a charcoal cannister.

Danny, you are correct about the charcoal cannister being in the underside of the left front fender. It was located there for some applications, while others were in the engine bay on the right side.
