Steering Lock ... Lock Straight?

I never had a new 911.
Is the steering wheel lock supposed to be able to lock the wheels straight ahead?

Mine is off, but that's after a full suspension rebuild.
I'd like to use the lock to lock the rack centered before final adjustment of the tie rods.

It would make sense, but I wanted to check here first.
I can imagine that one of the splines in the u-joints could be off 1 tooth.
Thanks for any info!

No. The first notch in the lock is off center.

They might vary, because mine will lock straight up centered.

Bump...
I guess we need more data or evidence.
The best case would be a car that had never had the steering wheel removed and/or alignment. (Probably pretty rare 25 - 30 years later!)

At least it's possible to get the wheel pointing straight with the sterring locked.
My bet is that there is enough adjustment in the tie rods to make it happen, but I'd really like to make sure the rack is centered so one side or the other doesn't rub on the inside. (At least even it out.)
Thanks for the responses.
More the merrier!

Garage
Mine locks with the wheels pointed slightly to the left. I believe this is so when parked on a hill if the car was to roll back it would roll into a curb.
