Oh boy my bad meant to start a new thread!

i would start off by not trying to clean the car while it is upside down... :-)

Nice write up, thanks

Hey there, thread revival! Ha. I started working on this in my 1977 911 just recently. I have everything removed and working on assembling the missing pieces. Does anyone have a resource for the tiny spring clips that hold the blower motor vent assembly together? I believe that it has 6 of them that gold two clamshells together. I am wondering what anyone has used to plug the holes in the floor of the trunk where the wire bundles exit the Smuggler's box. Also, it would be great to see how yours turned out Frank!
Thanks, Patrick |

I believe the part number for the ring clips you are looking for is 90157192100. Pelican lists them as NLA, but Stoddard appears to stock them. Quote:

yes. a completed thread would be most helpful.

Hey SWS911, thanks for the clips!
Thanks again Steve! |
Hey Frank, I was able to obtain a set of the diverter caps that have the extra outlet for the side vents. I am almost finished. I just need to get the "Y" duct for the passenger side of the blower ( it's on its way ), and then will be able to finish. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1594679050.jpg

Looking good, Patrick.
In case you find it useful, I'm posting photos of the final assembly for my system. I do recall the bottom hose from the Y splitter to the right distribution box being a very tight fit. After finishing the duct work, I spent some time plugging all the holes in the smugger's box and chassis that remained with the A/C parts removed (I didn't want any water getting in). Like I said, I need to document my final steps for this thread, but I'm working on two project cars now in my spare time, so there's not a lot of time left over. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1594697143.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1594697277.JPG |
Frank, yours looks great. I hear ya on plugging everything up. I also found the reproduction cardboard like round cover to go over the hole left where the A/C used to come out of the Smuggler's box and into the white splitter.
If I haven't already said it, thanks for putting this thread together and showing the rest of is how to do this. I have become obsessed with it. It's a really intriguing system of our cars that is so often neglected. I was originally afraid to disassemble this octopus, but after reading your thread it explained it so well, I just had to. I will post up final pics sometime soon as I receive the final bits. |
Lookin' good Patrick! Glad to help. Love that Peruvian red!
Hey Frank, lookin' good too! |
Thanks Steve. Had her out for a shakedown a week ago out through the west hills of Portland. The ventilation was all working as expected. The center vents will as soon as I get the other parts in the mail.
Gratuitous 1977 pic! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1594701046.jpg |
Nice work and thanks guys.
The system looks very similar to my '84 3.2. I'm building the courage to do this after my semi-restoration. I finally have heat again after the A/C delete and heater backdate, but sadly no footwell blowers yet after the heater relay modification. I may have to look at temp resistors also. I don't know what my chances are of getting these parts down under... |
Frank, it appears as if you found replacement plastic clips that hold the "Y" to the blower assembly. Do you have a part # for these clips? Thanks

I vaguely remember discussing this fastener with someone - perhaps it was @Javadog as he was assisting me throughout this project since he had a 911 that had an OEM setup to use as reference. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1596171310.JPG |
Hey Javadog, I am just curious what the inside of your smuggler's box looks like, does it have the cutout with a panel covering the hole to the cabin or did the non AC cars not even have the cutout at all?
Thanks, Patrick Quote:

I have to redo my circulation setup...can anyone snap a picture of a 77 or abouts vent system and id the control cables from the interior..I want to make sure the right cables go to the right flaps. Also indicate flap position for each cable control (i have a 4 switch (slider) control panel. Top control has 2..one for fresh air amount and a second for blower speed...they can but against each other to open full blow and full fresh air. BUT i cant tell if the other two cables are correctly done as i dont get the correct hot/cold regardless of slider positions played with..arrgh...I rarely use heat but seem to get it regardless (have to redo flappers again to see why heat getting into cablin)...but i just cant find a good photo of how the entire system work by which cable and what flap position. I intend to remove it all and bench set up

BTW
I know its an old post but hope you can offer some ideas first, i do have the top caps from an old diffusor that has the extra split off (small diameter "pipe" )...if i wanted to run both cold and hot air to center vent could i install that and then if so, how would i connect that to the center vent? thanks bob |
the hose p/n that was initially referenced?
