100 bucks for a starter?

have the starter motors (bosch rebuilt) always been around 100 bucks on our host? I think it went down! I was just cruising thru the catalog and I saw it so I decided to pick one up since mine is on the way out. Last time I checked I thought it was alot more. Of course there is the core charge, but its like a rebate. Just a 17 pound rebate.

I checked the records, used to be $175 just a short while ago. Price has gone down for some reason. In 2005 we put in a new pricing update model that directly links our costs with our prices, so when stuff goes down in cost, it gets reflected immediately on the site.

Cudos to Pelican...I recently ordered a cam tool for my 88 3.2 project but (sorry to admit this) checked around to see if possibly I could just go buy it rather than wait for it to be shipped. No one had it in stock but could order it for...$150. Ordered from Pelican on Sunday evening it got here yesterday (Wednesday)! Total cost, including shipping, just over $80!
Bigger orders to Pelican coming after I remove the heads and ship them off to California for the work.
It's really great to see a company with good service ALSO be extremely competitive on price...they are often mutually exlusive.

Great job wayne....keep up the good work!

I wish my local gas stations would use that model for fuel prices....well, i think they do use the same model but in reverse....it takes forever for prices to fall but are jacked up immediately.

The starters and alternators for the 911 are not too unique and I think most local auto-electrical shops could probably rebuild them for less than rebuilt units are sold. My alternator was rebuilt locally for $38.

I mean that's cool and I would do it if someone could let me know of a place in the dallas/ft. worth area they trust! swapping out these alternators is no easy task...not like my 71 dodge where if the alternator bombed out i could just drive to autozone in the car and pick one up for 30 bucks and swap it out in the store's parking lot. (heehee...i actually had to do that once on a cross country trip in my dodge passing thru vegas when it was 110 degrees out). but yeah, i wanna get an alternator, put it in the 911, and not have to worry about it for years. So the bosch rebuild is a very attractive choice - despite the $200+ price

Look in the yellow pages under 'Auto-Electrical'. There should be many to choose from in D-FW. The shop I took my alt to has been in business since 1919. I walked in and the shop guy took one look at my alt. and asked 'What year Porsche?" They rebuild them all.
But if you want to pay $200 for peace of mind and a Bosch sticker, it's worth it.

85 Carrera, I'm in Dallas and interested in this as well since my alt. is out for some top end work. I recall a couple of years ago someone from Dallas had theirs rebuilt for about $75 but I can't find the thread. I guess I could call Dallas Eurocar or Loudens for a suggestion but if you come across someone let me know.
Thanks
