Hey JA, they go into a lot of detail on what's done to the car. Then at the end some cool footage. They say at the end it proves a rear engine car can drift. I'm an old goat & don't know much about drifting but I would have thought a rear engined car would be awesome for this. They do say something to the effect it's the first and or only Porsche to drift. Cool looking stuff.

I dont see whats awesome about drifting.. maybe someone can explain why going around a corner while wasting a set of tires is awesome? First off, it certainly isnt the fastest way around the corner.. if it were dirt maybe, but not on concrete or asphalt. Okay, it looks "cool" but in the long run it sort of like "pro wrestling".. just a show rather than the real thing..
I guess maybe I have this "tude" because I can sit and watch a formula 1 race from start to finish with nearly no passing and just be blown away the whole time. The guy even said he purposely removed traction from the rear.. it just seems silly.. and the Porsche engineers must be horrified to see their car do something like this.

Big +1 here! What is the goal? It's certainly not performance as in getting from A to B quickest. It's not for me. Maybe figure skaters would be attracted to it........?

It's a cool car no doubt. 3.8L with ITB's, huge intercooler etc. They Japanese guy who built it has a lot of Porsche experience and seems to have done a great job. Just wonder who funded that thing.

Well i like to think about when the whole Tuner movement got started in the early ninety's I thought it was silly suping up hondas and other jap makes that are front wheel drive grocery getters. But it's stuck around. I guess it's just an overall evolution of motorsports. Like it or not some people are into it and thats there right. I personally like drifting but def not in a p-car to me that makes no sense.

Well, tuners are one thing. I don't see anything wrong with a kid taking pride in his ride and spending money on it. Whether it's a grocery getter or something else.
I just don't get the drifting I guess.

I knew that they had a drift competition at the Hockenheimring every year as part of the tuner GP - and I always thought that was OK. It does look realy cool, its a lot of fun to do, and watching someone who can do it really well is like - well - watching an artist. But it's cool like the wife throwing competitions they have every year (Scotland or something? - don't remember). Its fun, silly, a good time but a real sport? Gimme a break!!! |

Come on guys! You have to attend a Drift event to understand i guess, Its all about control, speed and angle. The drifters like to call it controlled chaos.
I was in the whole Nissan drift 240sx faze, i had my SR20 turbo power plant (from a japanese 180sx) and all the goodies but lost interest when my car was stolen and stripped. But i did get ride alongs at local drift events from buddies who are die hard drifters. All i can say it is fun as hell! But yes its not for everyone; but try to attend an event, Its pretty impressive. Heres a vid of the porsche on you tube.

Well not really, Drifting is more about style and show. You get points by speed, entry angle and tire smoke and even getting close to walls in some events.
Tandem drifting is more of trying to put tremendous pressure on the car in front of you, you also gain points by maintaining the line of the lead car and pressuring him to fail so you can pass him. Technically its not racing. Fun stuff... ![]()

Porsche Drifting...
Call me whatever.....as i Saw that Porsche "Drifting", seemed to me like some one using Space Shuttle to carry caddle....
That car can perform so great at high speed, break so precisely, accelerate like a dream....why use it to burn ruber?... Damn i guess that guy could win lots of speed contests and circuit tests, but use it to burn rubber?.... Even Call it a "Sport".....i dont know... What next, F1 cars burning rubber?......that is silly...
