High Beam switch

Driving my 78 SC last nite I noticed the high beam indicator on constantly. And the high beams on!
The only way to get the low beams to work is pressing the turn signal stalk. Is it difficult to replace the switch?

Thanks,
Bob

It is not difficult to replace the switch, but you may not have to replace it. This well known problem has occured on both the Porsche I have owned. I fixed it both times by leaving the switch in place, disassembling the steering column to the point where I can get access to the working of the switch, using a blade of a screw driver to bend the switch innards so that the problem go away.

No cost to me.

I have the same issue. Save yourself the $150 to replace the switch and try this well documented procedure first....

So the thread says to pull the one nut and 6 screws. This pulls the steering wheel? Than the dimmer switch is under that?

I can't comment from personal experience as this project is still on my winter to-do list. Bottom line is remove the steering wheel and then the housing around the turn signal stalk. You should be able to access the switch contacts from there.

Make sure the wheels are straight before pulling the steering wheel off to keep it centered.
Disconnect the battery!
Yank the horn button off, disconnect the ground wire.
You'll need a large socket for the big nut.
The wheel may be stuck, so, soak the spline with penetrating oil for a bit.
Install the dual relays for Hi-Low to minimize the load on the switch.
