911R Gauge Color

Green Letters or White? I thought green, but every picture I look at seems to be white letters

White, they were basically '68s.

Aside....ever notice this was the era of "form follows function"...and the gauge graphics were legible, stark and business-like ( like a Bell & Ross watch) ? http://www.bellross.com/movie.php

Today, Porsche has gotten all "cutesy" using stylized script (ex: Boxster)....definitely the hand of the stylist instead of light-aircraft looking stark functionality.

In this regard, gimme the old days anytime.

Wil,

In the era of the integrated "instrument panel" instead of "gauges" there is ONE who knows. . .

Interesting John how there is no consistency in the gauges. Your first picture the Tach Red Line has been marked on the glass face , second the red-line is on the gauge face.

Hows a fellow supposed to figure out what to use?

Know of any with a standard S (8000 rpm 7200 red-line) Tach?

John, I agree...RUF does a good job and the green numerals give a nice vintage touch too. Also easier on the eyes than the blue text in (say) current VW gauges too.

Robert, LOL, the 911R was such a small "production" run of 20 or so cars. . .I always chuckle when I see the four "911R prototypes" because they were ALL prototypes from a volume production standpoint. There are many differences between the cars in the series, and certanly many changes over the years as the cars were campaigned, then sold, then used for other purposes. . .

In my race car I have a 10,000 RPM face with a piece of red adhesive tape for the redline. That way, when I change engines it will be easy to change redlines! I have it set at 6800 in the 911E engine now, but it can be easily changed to 8,000 in a couple of seasons when I go GT. .
