What parts would you most want on your P-car

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello- I have an interest in re-creating no longer produced parts for vintage Porsches. I would like to get a list of opportunities(wish list) that this community would like to see re-created. I am a seasoned engineer with 13 years of product development experience and would like to start a hobby creating and recreating parts or objects. I have many connections and experiences in many industries and would like to use this knowledge to serve this community. Please let me know your wish list.

rear red reflector with bold PORSCHE is no longer available afai know.

A trick CB front electric panel and cover might be a good sell? Same for rear. My fuse panel is obsolete.

Early door pockets - at over $300 per each (4 needed per car) some made of fiberglass, CF, or thermo plastic, with identical early car finishing at a more reasonable price , like $150 per unit, would sell.

Do you have an area you'd like to focus on?
Engine? Body? Electrical? Rubber? etc.

Without it, you might find that the answers are going to be all over the place.

Also, check out this (similar) thread, you might find some answers there:

Replica racing parts...who wants 'em??

Cheers,

Press on rubber bushings for the front LCA (outer metal & inner metal sleeve that can be pressed / JB welded onto A-arm, as opposed to the factory outer metal only, which can't readily be replaced at home). I prefer such a DIY solution over the 1 week + $500 + shipping to get the arms done elsewhere.

Something similar, but inner sleeve only, for the spring plate in back.

Circuit Breaker..

I've seen an aircraft style small CB panel on a car. It must have had 40 small CBs. I should have saved the picture. I now use a marine 8 circuit CB panel for new install power seats, headlights, audio amp, etc. It's even vapor proof but they are big CBs. The car install used small CBs for same amps. It's mounted next to the battery on the trunk floor.

This is the third such post/question I've seen in the last month. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I think these are crazy questions to pose on a forum. Having done some manufacturing in my life, I know that it just isn't realistic to think that rear reflectors and such are going to get produced, at least to the quality that most of us would want on our car at a realistic price.

Secondly, we're not talking about 100's of thousands of old 911's out there, like you may have with domestic cars.

I think you need to decide what it is you want to focus on, and try to make a better mousetrap. Take Chuck Moreland, for example. The guy has zero'd in on suspensions, and has come up with numerous improvements to parts that worked already.

You've got some older 911's in your sig, I'm sure you know what it is that you can't find, or what you think you can do better.

TargaFlorio's advice is good, you decide where it is you want to go with this, and see what happens.

How many old 911s ARE there out there?

Total production from 1966-89 could well be > 100,000 couldn't it?

I'm sure there are, but there were some obvious changes along the way. et's use the rear reflector as the example. Take all of the pre-74's out of the mic first, so the market has just shrunk somewhat. The molds to crank out a number of these in the quality that would be expected would be very expensive. I doubt someone who has come in stating that this is a hobby is going to invest the tens of thousands if not six figure$ in tooling up front to meet the requests of some maniacs like us on a website.

Let's all be realistic here.
