WOW,

now I have more problems, because there are way to many great choices. Peru red is bueatiful, and I really like the orange as well, but I don't want to attract too much attention, and getting older, I think I'm most attracted to the darker reds. Right now I'm still swayed most by Carmine Red, but Peru is very close...

I think that in my mind I really like the blues, and white, but whenever I see the red cars It clicks.. we'll see..

Adam,

My first 911 in '74 was Peruvian red. It's a great color. In a total coincidence I past by another last weekend when out in the '73. We both passed each other like we had stepped back in time 34 years. Both cars looked as new.

You won't find another red anywhere that is Peru red. It's a very unique shade of red and as far as reds go (especially dark reds) it's in a class by itself...

Color!?

I think that choosing the color for my Wide One was the toughest decision of all in it's rehab. I once owned a '72S in choc brown...hated the color until I painted it black (flares). Kinda missed the brown...but luved the black. My latest project had me swaying across the entire spectrum. In the end I went with Continenal Orange (#107) and despite my aging carcass (PCA member for 34 yrs), for me, for once, I made a choice that I'm totally happy with! But it was a tough call. I sympathize with your plight.

When it comes to the cars I like, there's alway been only 4 choices: Silver, black, white and red. Since immersing myself in everything Porsche, I have found a genuine appreciation for several other colors: The Gulf colors, (lite blue and orange, Tang. orange and gun-metal gray, some yellows and even MORE love for silver. Never cared for any of the metallics and I'm not a fan of green or brown on a 911.
I have a similar problem. My car is the SC off-white (pearl?) and I plan to keep it white but ... I have the car mostly track ready and I'm really liking the orange and white scheme on the T/R that was posted last week. Hmmm. It's a tough one.

Of your three original choices, polar white.

forest green 01-11-2008 10:27 AM

Man I'm glad I don't have to make that choice, Porsche makes some great colors. But if I had to pick I like the orange and the Mexico Blue and the signal green and the ... and the ... oh well I guess I'm like all the rest I like the color on my car the best, forest green I sure don't see any others that color and I like thathttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200078830.jpg

Irish green looks good on an SC.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200082250.jpg

If you like the darker reds and the Peru red in particular, how about paint code 8181 - Red Metallic....

In an attempt to make this decision more difficult for you, here is my favorite color. Sure, Tangerine is awesome. Gulf blue. Mexico Blue. Lots of really great colors. But for two years ('83 and '84) L662 Quartz Grey Metallic was a standard color. As you can see by the two photos, this is a chameleon color. It changes. Hides dirt. Looks VERY classy at night. And here is one of the best features: Cops can't see it. Totally invisible.

I really like the sharpness of white. I find white to be one of the easier colours to maintain also. I had a black car for 2 years, and it was dirty before it even dried after a wash, not to mention the inevitable swirl marks on dark colours.

Just my 2cents...

Good luck with your decision~

If you have a weakness for the early colors, then this page might help. Or make choosing impossible....

Good luck. I know I can't decide.

There are not enough Slate Gray cars out there to suit me. I believe Steve McQueen's 911 was SG. Here's an example:

I'm not suggesting this was his car, but it could be.

Further research shows that the pic of one I posted was indeed his first of three painted SG. That Turbo may have been no. 2 or 3. He died in 1980, so that could be one of the first series of turbos.

Either way, SG is a "king of cool" color.

96740 01-11-2008 05:03 PM

The car belongs to a friend of my brothers. According to the records, it was McQueens last Porsche before his death.

iamchappy 01-11-2008 05:30 PM

You would never ever regret painting it Signal Orange.

kilodawg 01-11-2008 05:46 PM

The turbo was number 3 according to my reading. First was the 69S which Chad still owns. This was followed by the 70S purchased by Solar and used during the making of Le Mans and the third was the '76 Turbo. The Turbo actually passed thru Dino Martin and his at the time girl friend Dorothy Hamill before winding up with it's current owner....Technically since McQueen still owned the '69S and his '58 Speedster at the time of his death they were his last Porsches.
