Okay Old Skull,
For some of us mechanically challenged a simple swepco change can turn into a nightmare!. Small pin next to quarter was attatched to magnet, suspected to be pin which activates reversing light. But the reversing light works! ![]() Vertex say it may be a extra one which fell out ![]() Comments........? The other parts which broke are the clutch cable bracket wich crumbled and the throttle linkage, where the ball dropped off as I was trying to seperate the cable from the linkage. ![]() Seems someone had tried to repair this once as there was a blob of weld holding it on. Further attempts to seperate the ball from the cable socket (in a vice) remain hopeless. So do I need to buy a whole new cable or can I get just the cable socket piece? The two linkages are both on order with Vertex as I wish to show them the pin before I drive the car again!. With hindsight am glad all this happened now rather than on the road! ![]() Any advice/comments greatfully recieved. rgds Ben 'Porsche wrench in training!' ![]() |

Ben,
You can get a new ball socket w/M5 std. threads from the dealer for around 2-4 bucks (ripoff, yes) or somebody with more industrial experience could direct you to a supplier. That bellcrank for the throttle linkage is not cheap if that broke- 40 to 60 bucks depending on where you shop. Did you use the super drill pump? It took me more like 30 MINUTES when I used that thing for my AWD Talon. Changed to the hand pump for the 911. Good luck, ------------------ Kevin 87 Carrera |

Thanks Kevin am getting all the pieces in the pic for $70 arriving at Vertex tomorrow so can drive up and be running tomorrow evening!
![]() ![]() As for the pump it is an ITT Jabsco drill pump and I believe it has about 3/8 id outlets. I put it on a Makita cordless drill and it took definately less than a minute to pump the swepco!. Was the most successful part of the job! Maybe Pelican Parts should stock them. They should take notes of all these service hints and run weekly specials on the gadgets that make it work!. |

86rt,
Did you have to prime the drill pump or did it suck up the Swepco right away? ------------------ Doug '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA members.home.net/zielke/911SC.htm |

Sucked stronger than a 'Prom date!'.
No priming neccessary! I do not know if they are available at motorist stores but otherwise check out the nearest yacht store. I have pumped over 10 gallons of hydraulic oil from the surface of bilge water, lift height 3 foot! no priming!. With one battery from the makita battery drill!. Check it out! rgds Ben [This message has been edited by 86ragtop (edited 03-26-2001).] |
