New magazine...

I just got a notice for new magazine in the mail today
called
Auto Aficionado.
The journal for fine automobile collectors & enthusiasts

The first issue is free but the subscription is a little pricey at
39.95 an it is bi-monthly.

Looks like it could be interesting.

Anyone else out there get one of these?

Got it. Tossed it. Looked too "wine and cheese." When I go to Monterey, I go to Laguna Seca, not Pebble Beach Concours.

Looked like it was for the more money than sense crowd. I can't even bring myself to spend the $25 for Classic Motorsports, the sister magazine to Grassroots Motorsports.

I sent in for my free issue. We'll see what it looks like. I have to admit, I subscribed to Octane, a UK rag focused on classic cars. There are some articles on things such as older Euro race cars and such. It's a good read, and a lot of great pics to drool over.

Jan / Feb 08 issue with 935 on the cover...

great articles of the 901, flat six development by Karl Ludvigsen, Steve McQueen and his cars, and great interview of Jim Busby with Kerry Morse regarding his experience racing the 935s.

excerpt of interview talking about the 935:
"think of that original 1964 911 winding up with with 19 inch rims and 14.5 inch tires...at Laguna Seca, coming into turn 9, there was so much rear brake in those cars, you'd turn the wheel the opposite way, stomp the brake pedal and the car would just jump sideways... Because of the turbo lag, by the time you got pointed at the apex the car was going into the corner sideways. You'd put the throttle on the floor under braking and get it caught up by letting off the brakes, it would then shoot you out of that corner like a drag racer...".
"you're in a '64 911, just going into turn 4 at Daytona without lifting, faster than a stock car...you're at 195 and you don't lift, you have so much hp that when you come off that bump in turn 4, you have to be about 6-8 feet off the wall because when the rear wheels hit the bump, the tach starts to buzz as the rear wheels spin. The tires spin coming off 4 at nearly 200, then it's 211 at the start/finish line".
"LeMans - lap after lap at 225 or whatever and that's also through the kink...you're so comfortable in this car, not because what we'd done to it, but because Porsche's engineering was so incredible. I remember the restaurant sitting on left side, coming down Tertre Rouge onto the straight, already on the throttle, no lifting, no braking".

Great articles!

pilfered from an Admirals Club, strictly for the wine and cheese folk. Took it on my flight and left it on the plane in "first class"

Don't think you are going to see any articles on suspension or valve adjustment.
