G50 spring center disc rubs flywheel bolts

I bought a 240mm spring center clutch disc to replace my rubber-center disc, and when I test fit it, it rubs the heads of the flywheel bolts. Am I missing something? One side of the splined center sticks out farther, and it fits easily into the space where the rubber used to go in the clutch housing.

I don't mean anything by this, but did you put washers under bolts that aren't supposed to have washers? I didn't think so. It happens from time to time, though.

Outstanding question, but you're right, I didn't. I wish I had. The disc I ordered was a 240mm G50 from DC Quality Auto Parts via E-Bay. It is advertised as 87-89 G50. I assumed it was a direct swap for the rubber-center disc.

No machining, everything is stock.

I'm starting to think that the disc I bought is intended to be used along with other modification. I don't understand how it is advertised as a '87-'89 G50 disc, if it won't sit flush to the flywheel surface without the springs rubbing the flywheel bolt heads.

Just my opinion, usually the clutch disks I've seen have more than 4 springs, allowing smaller diameter springs. Those springs do look large in diameter.

I think you're right. The Turbo disc looks like 6 springs, which are smaller, and I believe they fit into the recess between the flywheel bolts and the edge of the flywheel friction surface.

So now my question is how can the disc I bought be used in an '87 G50? It is advertised as such.

Hi, by the looks of your clutch disk in the photo, its the HP segmented disk for the 930. From what I understand that is the only segmented disk out there, please anyone correct me if you know different. There is usually a warning with this disk that it must be used with a different pressure plate, but have never heard about using a different flywheel. But perhaps the combined pressure plate and flywheel are both different for this application?

I will see if I can find the site that had more info on that disk with the 4 larger springs vs the 6 smaller ones and post a link, if I find anything helpful.

I would like to know that myself from anyone else that has run into this problem

That disc pictured looks like the inexpensive QSC disc i've seen on ebay whenever I do a G50 search. And I agree those springs look bigger than what I recall on my Sachs early 930 disc. Bottom line is, that is not a Sachs disc (you can see the QSC box underneath it), so it's not the fancy Sachs segmented kevlar bulletproof big dollar disc.

The above disc does appear to have much smaller springs.

Like you said Rick, I can't understand how this disc could be the proper fitment for 87-89 Carreras if it doesn't fit!!!!

I also agree that a resurfaced flywheel could be causing the problem. The typical problem with a resurfaced flywheel and RUBBER damper disc is the high side of the damper can touch the clutch housing. In this case with this disc it looks like the opposite can be true. If it's a new flywheel then that's not the problem.

The flywheel has not been resurfaced. It's in good shape.

Here's the Ebay link. It plainly says '87-'89 G50.
