Finally
![]() Now I'm off to the next prject - the Targa headliner needs to be replaced. I have already bought the headliner, and have done a search on the subject, but only came up with posts/articles on the outer skin, and not the headliner itself. Anyone who wants to share their experience on replacing the headliner? What should I beware of, is there a particular order to taking things apart, etc, etc. Appreciate your input, guys! ![]() ------------------ 1972 911S Targa ************************ My project! |

Bo,
You can do a Pelican archive search on 'targa headliner' ... or you can just go straight to Tom Sharpes page at: http://members.rennlist.com/5150targa/ ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Bo- I reinstalled mine when I restored my targa top. Here is what I did.
roll the headliner from the front to the middle and back to the middle. you will end up with a scroll shape. There should be cut outs in the center that hide under the outer frame supports. this is your starting reference point. I sprayed a line of 3M adhesive from the support post on the sides. The liner can then be layed on the adhesive layer and aligned. unroll each side(one at a time) and check the alignment. Pay attention to the holes for the clips that hold the top to the frame. YOu will run into trouble if these do not align. correct alignment if needed. roll back to scroll shape. spray one side with adhesive. unroll and glue the headliner. Make sure to smooth any wrinkles at this point. I would not press down hard until everything is correct. repeat for the other side of the liner. Congratulations, you just did the headliner. If you have any questions email me. jamie ------------------ Jamie 71 911T targa http://www4.ncsu.edu/~jpnovak |

Bo, it's pretty easy, at least compared to doing the vinyl on top. Just a couple things to add: Use the best glue. I don't recommend the 3M general purpose spray glue, whatever it's called. Instead get the 3M super strength stuff. It comes in a smaller can and costs more - about $8/can I think. And tape the pieces that the clips screw into to hold them in place. If your top fits well now you want to reinstall the clips in the same place. Good luck. Eric H 87 Targa
