Is it for idiot's... or am I the idiot?! It can't be a shift light, because it comes on wayyyy before redline, which is where I shift

Yeah, I think it's the "I like it. . .get those RPM's higher" light.

that's your 'improve your gas mileage by shifting now' light... so, in a sense it's merely 'suggesting' that you shift now if you want to be more conscious of your fuel consumption... :-)
for some reason, it seems to drive some of the members up here crazy to the point of needing to cover it with tape. doesn't bother me at all- ------------------ Adam Nitti ajnitti@mindspring.com www.adamnitti.com '85 911 Carrera Coupe [This message has been edited by adamnitti (edited 03-30-2001).] |

To save gas!? Then why an arrow? Why not an "H" . .. to remind you to go buy a Honda. And if so then where is the "i'm going down a hill - shift into neutral, to save gas" light?
Nope, it must be the "I like it. . .get those RPM's higher" light. |

Ah ... but Porsche, in its infinite wisdom, did something else with that little orange arrow ... if you are accelerating hard (wide open throttle) the little arrow will come on at the proper shift points to get maximum acceleration out of the car. Try it (assuming your car isn't chipped or had changes to it).

The light in my 86 works, but it seem to be wanting me to shift too soon - it puts me somewhere around 1500 RPM's in the next gear.
What is the minimum RPM that we should allow so as not to be "lugging" the engine? ------------------ 1984 911 Targa 1986 911 Coupe |
