This is NOT another oil post!

I have been changing my own oil for more years than I want to admit. Part of that is because I am cheap but the biggest part is I want to KNOW that it was done right.

When I am adding the new oil I always leave every oil bottle upside down for about a minute. There is always some oil left in the bottle but not much. A couple of weekends ago I changed the oil in both my 1985 911 & my El Camino. That is 16 quarts of oil total.

I had a little experiment in mind. I set up a rig to put each quart bottle upside down to drain some more. After 6 hours I had recovered 8 oz of new oil. Not much but that is a 1/4 of a quart from 16 "empty" bottles. What do you pay for a quart of oil?

The real reason I did the experiment was I was going to be in the garage all day doing a complete wash, clay bar & Zymol wax job on my Carrera.

I figure I saved enough to buy a bottle of beer. Beer is important.

Nice 5 container funnel. I've had my eye out for the perfect funnel to fill the car with. I've been using one that is about 18" long, has an accordion type flexible neck and holds a 1 quart plastic oil bottle nicely. I ty-wrap the funnel to the lid hinge which makes the time consuming job of pouring 10 1/2 quarts of oil much easier. Problem is too much oil sticks in the accordion neck. It would be nice to find a smooth necked funnel that would do the same job.

Try replacing the "accordian" type hose w/ a "smooth" one.

The only reason I did it was curiosity. Ultimately I have been throwing away 1/2 oz of oil per bottle. I would guess the old style cardboard cans were even worse.
