Is this gulf blue? Should I add orange? Photoshop???

Dilemma!

All – just received the car shown in the pictures and am looking to recreate the full gulf look. As such I have some decals (Porsche and Gulf coming) and am considering the orange front and rear and side / rocker stripe.

Is this a good blue for that? Thoughts?

If anyone is a Photoshop pro and could do there magic I would be forever indebted!
Sam

My personal opinion; I think the orange looks like you have crashed it and put some bits off an orange car on it.

Maybe black trim, or maybe this is not period correct.

Off-color bumpers and runners were commonly used with multiple car (same primary color) race teams for easy recognition....

An orange stripe might help, this one was posted in the 911 picture thread:

I considered that for my layout, but took the advice of a number of people with similar "full race" schemes on their longhoods for the street that simply resulted in the cars becoming police magnets. I get enough "attention" by them as is. If not for anticipated speeding/aggressive driving, but the hint of effluent use of non-DOT parts. Bumpers and sides are a good compromise. Guess it depends on how far you want to go with it really!

Chrome trim and that blue are the ultimate combination. Just leave her as she was made, no need to modify the body. Plus this way its less embarrassing taking it down the road to the store. Its just a normal Porsche not some "tuner" Porsche. Even though I know its not, and you know its not a tuner vehicle, the body modified Porsches do give off a bit of a negative feel to onlookers.

Do the Gulf, it is a great color for it.
Got to love the Gulf.

Thanks for that bit of knowledge.

An idea might be to put shell oil (was it shell?) racing stickers on the fender behind the front wheel arch and level with the headlamps.

I love the car!

Looks like you'll be doing some paint work on that rear bumper anyway, so I say, go for it. The Gulf cars have always been a favorite, no matter how many I see. If I didn't have a green car, my next choice would be gulf colors.

I partially agree with this, but use the orange forthe graphics. Someone here has one like that, I think on the narrow bodeied hotrod thread. I personally think that is one of the hottest looks for the early cars. Maybe try painting the Fuch centers the orange as well, with center caps the same finish as your outside rim.

Just another thought. Nice looking car... Welcome and enjoy!

+1. Agreed.

IMO, race colors belong on the race track only or on a car that goes there often.

As a daily driver, the blue you have on there now is cool enough already. Super cool would be the Carrera titles.

I'm kinda partial to this one too. Keeps closer to original yet still stands out.

IMO, the Carrera graphics are over done on long hoods and belong on real Carreras.
Funny, these graphics were not really well received in their own time.

That is a hot combo. You seem to need paint on the rear, I myself would be tempted to go for it.

Warning. You will become an instant celebrity.
