Engine test run with rear wheels off the ground ??
This has got to be a pretty basic question, but I've never needed to do it before.
I put new Oil Return Tubes, new SSI HEs & a new muffler on. I need to warm up the engine and check for oil leaks. Can I run the engine with the car up in the air and the rear wheels off ? I believe it can be real bad to run the transmission with the wheels off the ground, but as long as the car is in neutral, I believe I should be fine, right ??

I have started and run my Carrera with the rear wheels off the ground. It was indeed out of gear. Also I was very sure the jack stands where solid and the front tires chocked.

If you have it in gear don't lean on the car. Bueller, Bueller, although that was a Ferrari I'm sure the same applies to Porsches.

No harm, even in gear (unless you do the bueller's buddy thing). Tranny internals are usually lubed from splash from the input shaft (so there is lubrication when idling in neutral), which is why towing with the engine off is bad - parts of the transmission do not get lubricated as the input shaft does not turn.
It'll be hard to get properly warm w/out any load...
